So I did something dumb, and hit the home button with something on the print bed. As I’m watching the Z axis move up to smash what’s on the print bed into the head, I thought, 'Gee, I’d probably better stop this before something bad happens!" and hit the e-stop button. No result. Nothing stopped, no response to the e-stop whatsoever. I then frantically looked for a stop square on the touch screen, finding none, I hit the e-stop button 2-12 more times, then flipped the power switch to stop motion and save my piece and printer.
I work in the industrial controls industry, and we put an a lot of effort into making sure the e-stops work. If you hit the e-stop on our products, the machine STOPS - it has no choice; the power is disconnected by contactor and brakes are engaged by spring. This is done OUTSIDE of the normal control electronics. What is going on with this one? Is this SAFE? Has anybody else noticed that the e-stop is no more useful than the stop button on the info screen? Or is my machine on the fritz?
I must have misinterpreted. What’s the red button on top with the little recycle logo (I know it isn’t) that looks like instructions for a real e-stop button? When I first got the printer, I googled it, and the answer appeared to be that it was an e-stop, and they were using the “rotate” instructions from a real e-stop button as the symbol, so apparently I got some bad info (I think from reddit.)
Ok. Well, I guess I’ll have to be more careful with the home button. I can’t believe there’s no easy way to stop motion, but I’ll grab an e-stop button from work and wire it in. I can’t be trusted not to tell it to go somewhere it shouldn’t.
Believe me, I’ve done this one my other two printers (Ender5 and Ender3). I had to hit the power switch many times. It happens and many of us have been there.
Seems like the fancy AI camera should be able to take a snapshot and check if anything is on the build plate before it crashes the toolhead into a print.
What about an e-stop (or just stop-all-motion button on the jog screen) in the Bambu Handy app? I did this mistake when I was at work. Although I have the printer plugged in through smart socket it is cumbersome and slow to cut power this way in an emergency.
Emergency Stop in handy app would be nice. I literally just about hit home button myself and thought what if I did do that I’d have no way of stopping it and me being at work.
