I see blogs etc that the H2C/Studio can dedicate filament to a certain type for filament like ASA, PLA etc. Is that a feature not implemented yet?
I donât think the lock is currently implemented, but itâs already doing the optimized nozzle selection thing.
Basically, it would try the filament mapping that can minimize needed purging amount. E.g., if you have two nozzles, one with ASA and one with PLA, it would respect that.
I keep hearing about it and Bambu is evening throwing it out on social media as if itâs a thing, but I canât for the life of me see how itâs done. Guessing itâs probably not actually available, they just think it is? More than likely Iâm just an idiot and missing something.
Hereâs a picture for the release notes of the latest H2C firmware where you are supposedly able to manually assign filament to nozzles. This screen doesnât appear to exist.

I posted a list of things i tested/want on the hotend management part of the h2c. It clearly doesnât do yet what is kind of promised/hinted at. I think it can and they will work on it. Keeping track/assign/have stats on the nozzles you have in and outside of the printer is a big deal it is what we should be getting in return for all the âdownsidesâ. Bambu should make this a strong point.
A good example is the hotend list it just shows the hotends S/N number of the ones inside the machine not really any useful info and not all the hotends it has seen before so you can switch. Info is also very incomplete doesnât show material just kind of hinted to the color.
It should show something like this in the list (including a label we can add).

Something like that where it helps us keep track of them and make it easy compared to other solutions. One of the strong points the system has is saving data per nozzle they should really use this to increase the ease of use of vortek vs the other systems.

That screen is available when you send the job to the printer. You have to hit the hot end icon beneath the filament in mapping screen, then you can assign specific hot ends to filaments. There is also a handy illustration of the last filament color used inside specific hot ends.
Huh, youâre right that is the same window and didnât even notice. The picture I shared above was from the printerâs screen shown in the firmware release notes so I was poking around there trying to find it. So thereâs some definite oddities there. Now they just need to let us actually dedicate filament types like they are saying we can.
That screen is also available on the printer. First time you print you pick the nozzle you want for the material you want. Any subsequent prints will automatically use the same nozzle, the one last used with that filament.

Glad to help. Just keep in mind if you run a job with 6 colors, it will automatically want to overwrite your last used material nozzle selection to reduce the purge waste. Then you will have to select the ABS/PA etc. nozzle again like the first time. Or you can pick to have the extra purge and use only 4 nozzles for example, but by default it will want to use all available nozzles to reduce purge.
To me it would make more sense to have a âsimpleâ hotends list (that now only has s/n numbers) and let us âprogramâ all nozzles it has seen. In a way making it available to the rack. So for example lets assume we have 2 pla 0.4 on the rack (so material locked) but color unlocked it can use that as it see fit. The list could be ordered ofcource with the loaded nozzles first. Lets see how this evolvesâŚ
Any update to this? Just set up h2c today and was hoping to keep track of nozzles early. If not, I guess Iâll just try and track manually.
donât think so but also not sure if someone really did a good request on how todo it. i am more than willing to come up with a plan but i am not sure how bambu normally works and how best to provide feedback. I am already having 13 nozzles and 5 more coming so i would love some more stats/tracking hehe
Per support, tracking to a filament will be coming in a future firmware update.
Just to make sure they replied that or thats what you want me todo ? Ill guess ill write up a way for them to implement it and post and send it i have some i feel good ideas.
