Eject microSD card on X1?

I know on the P1 and A1 series you have the option to “eject” the microSD card from the screens. But where is it on the X1 series?

The reason I ask, is if I just “pop out” the microSD card on my X1C and connect it to my computer, it usually comes up with a and error and that it needs to be checked/fixed.

Where-as if I power down the printer, then take out the microSD card and connect to my computer, it is fine.

So, I guess my main question is when is there going to be firmware update on the X1 series that includes “eject microSD”?

It doesn’t push in spring eject. Just use your finger nail on the little lip to pull it out. I just did that myself now.

Mine does. My nails are short and I find it difficult to push the card in far enough to release it. I slide this little scraper tool along the edge of the display on the very rare occasions I remove the card (FTP transfers are easier for me).

I’m referring to software eject / unmount.

That is to tell the operating system to stop and finalize any writing, and unmount the microSD card before physically removing the card from the mahine.

Unix is the “unmount” command. Windows has the “eject” button in the file explorer to safely remove microSD cards.

Ahh… apparently mine does too. Thank you for that.

That is only necessary for lazy operations or any process that is holding on to a file lock. There is no logging to the MicroSD and unless you are exploring the contents I doubt it will ever matter. You’re right it is good safety but they know how consumers use removable media. This has kinda been solved over a decade ago. I highly doubt there is a need to unmount to force file closure.

Aaaa, but why is it that if I just remove the card while the printer is still on, and put it in my computer it always needs to be repaired/fixed?

Whereas if I power down the printer, remove the cad, then put it in my computer all is fine?

This leads me to believe that one still needs to unmount the microSD card.

That’s interesting. I am completely new to the X1C so I’ll have to start experimenting with that myself. If what you say is happening, then something is holding a file lock, and that being the case… I completely agree with you! Or to release it so ejecting it is not dangerous like you are experiencing.

do you still get the error if you shut the printer off with the switch on the back and then remove the card

No error if I power off from the back switch, then remove the card.

I finally figured it out.

You have to turn off the Video, and Lan Mode Live View on the printer. Then you can remove the micro-SD card and it won’t need to be repaired when you put in a PC.

A very worthwhile conversation!
I learned that the SD card DOES have a spring release!
And, that it can be removed while powered on as long as you’re not recording to it.

As others have said, IMO the SD card is inset too far for my fat fingers and, for me, needs a tool to both release and insert. Consequently I rarely touch it.
