It won/t let you do a full bed if you are using the AMS only the single spool.
honestly for $299 i’ll probably just buy one and try it out next to my P1S
It depends on his margins and how he wants to spread the cost. I’d assume that for this kind of tech a machine will be getting a bit ragged after 1000 hrs use.
There are a lot of companies pushing out printed pieces so it very competitive on pricing so margins are going to be tight.
Same here. Why not? But I really want its AMS specs. We were going to scale up with A1 combos but now we’re pausing. I’ve had an A1 down for 3 weeks and the idiots running the tickets are clueless. Sending me parts I’ve already replaced and no urgency for getting me back online.
For sure way not ![]()
My only way not: No more space. The M5 costs under $300. A case offers more room for Twinker. If I weren’t getting the M5, I would have ordered the Centoury long time ago, but I have to set a personal limit. Yes, I’m strong enough and won’t order that printer too ![]()
In General:
Second printer get always some jobs to do. Even if it just a fist function test print during designing. Or if a Extruder is clogged, so you got a few days more time to solve it during printing on the other. Or you need a spar part fora printer where you get somewhere else much cheaper, so the printer will by knock out for several weeks. Or you have TPU always loaded and do not need to bypass the AMS anymore. Or you can exploit the strengths of individual printers even more precisely.and and and… there is never a printer to much staying around, there is just to less space ![]()
Well as a 4 time Bambu Labs purchaser, I decided that I would take a shot for 300.00 and purchase the Centuri Carbon. With it’s Higher Bed temps, Hot End temps and basically a semi open system that doesn’t require cloud or a watchdog to be able to use it, makes it VERY appealing. And the fact that it is going to support color is another BIG draw. I really don’t care about the Bambu Handy App at all, the is I never used it anyway. I would never want to start a remote print without being on site anyway, that just seems like an issue waiting to happen.
I run a totally air gaped network on all my Bambu stuff, that way it’s not talking to the cloud to to Bambu. I found a better way to monitor my printers using better cameras that live on a totally separate network run by a VM. They are accessible from the outside and that’s all that is on that subnet so if it ever got hacked no big deal nothing else to see there. The setup allows me to display up to 10 cameras on screen at once and that’s really cool. So the internal cameras from my Bambu Labs stuff are out of a job. Don’t get me wrong I really like my Bambu printers but I think having some diversity in your studio is a great thing. I’ve own an Elegoo Neptune 3 Pro and still have it. It’s been rock solid. I currently use it for making TPU gaskets etc. When I bought it, It was leap years faster than my ender 3’s . but things have continued to progress.
Is the Elegoo a rip off of Bambu Labs? Well I guess if you want to look at it that way all the newest core X/Y’s are to some extent. But Bambu Labs is also standing on the shoulders of the hobby community who developed the core X/Y in the first place.
I know there is a H1 probably in the works. I really have no need for an H2D. When that one comes out I might give it some serious consideration as long as long as it has a developer mode. But who knows what is around the proverbial corner from other companies.
Stay Well

Hopefully once you get it and get it setup and have been printing with it for a while you’ll come back and tell what you think about it.
Of Course I will. I love my A1’s and my P1S, but I do think as the saying goes “putting all your eggs in one basket” can be a mistake. If I’m out 300.00 lesson learned, but if it turns out to be great it’s a win win.

Sometimes it’s not about choosing the best printer, it’s about choosing the one with the lowest risk.
For sure there can not much done wrong by 300 USD. Thats how I both my M5 - a order into the dark without many positive reviews but just 350 USD and I m still happy with. Ok one M5 already get his secend print head by loosening 4 screws - So why not Eleggo Karboin, times have changed and today that might be the alternative choice.
My only problem, I do not like to add. one more Single printer in line. To have side by side in the same typ is just much easier on trubel shooting. But that is just my problem
So if i don`t have the other printers, I may will take the Elegoon, how knows.
The YouTube reviews opening an A1 during there of relase clearly shows, that the Bambus not really designed for testing cartridges from neighboring printers to figure out what to order… so way not an Eleggo since you are anyway done as soone something do not work? Bambulab has shown since they came onto the market that they don’t really care about maintenance. Perhaps a little better than the others, since you can buy the parts. But I support it way back in the field, much worse than the cheapest brands. But from a design perspective? The one-eyed man among the blind and deaf. Who would like to be paid like a king and strives for total domination as soon as he get the smallest opertunity
QIDI, may probably the first brand that became blind and deaf…
Maybe someone will say something — someone who hasn’t yet had to trash $2,000 worth of 3D printers (possibly just because they are outdated and that was happen quick during the last years) - but i think there is no one how can say he never get unlike if he print longer than 4 years…Unbeliever Lucky are those who’ve never wasted totally more than two grand on utterly useless machines, on 3D Printers which never work
If I knew for sure the X1 would just work as the X1 I own I would order one by today. If i know not amassing things will be happen… but how knows. Needing the support even by a printer out of the box always can happen or you will charge like by Rolls Royce - and even if you like to charge like by Rolls Royce, the product never ever will come out of china
So way not having a 300 USD printer in line were the whole printer just can by simply reorder?
But things can always go wrong. And when they do, it really comes down to how well those cases are handled
Its a great printer. 2nd best benchy ive ever made came from one of the first machines off the assembly line. Its cheap though. They obviously spent the budget on things that are needed and nothing else. I’ll suggest buying some sound deadening mat for the inside walls. They are thin sheet metal and can get noisy.
Thanks for the tip on the deadening material, there is some really cool stuff I’ve used in the past called “Ceramic Wool” or Ceramic Paper" it’s high temp and pretty much flame proof. It’s supper thin and can install with double sided tape.
Believe me if I could find another A1 in great shape I’d buy it. I think the whole bed slinger verse core X/Y is sort of hype. The A1 makes tremendous looking prints. It’s ultra quite. and compared to other bed slingers is pretty fast. And my P1S just works and makes great stuff.
However spending money for the H2D is a bridge too far for me. I have my P1S that started life as a P1P but I upgraded it. I would have bought another P1P but at 300.00us for a hotter bed and hot end closed chamber and the fact I can freely use orca slicer with it, I don’t need a cloud connection and I don’t have to ever use my phone with it is a HUGE bonus. It was just to hard not to pass up. The fact that Elegoo is coming out with a multi color system is another win, and if it’s as inexpensive as the Centuri Carbon that will truly be a game changer.
I’m pretty sure E3D will have a high flow nozzle for it like they do the X and P series soon. I’m planning on getting one for the P1S to shorten print times. Another bonus is Orca slicer will let me get in and play with the GCode so who knows how far you can push it.
I wish Bambu Labs hadn’t gone the route they did with locking out other slicers and hardware. I really don’t believe it was ever a real issue, remember people on Youtube make money on views, I can totally see how if they can stir a little controversy up that will generate more $$$.
Best Regards to all

OK spent most of the day working with the printer, First off all I can say is WOW. 300.00 is going to make it ruff on the others out there to beat.
First impressions is it feels well built. It’s no light weight, the box weighed in a 42 pounds. Getting it out of the box by yourself is no easy task. Setup is easy and calibration while not the fastest seems to do a great job. Take your time and learn the touch screen controls. The screen is bright and can stay on without timing out (if you so choose). Don’t rush you’ll thank yourself later.
Setting the time zone is based on UTC time so you’ll need to know that if you want to have it synced to your zone.
WiFi was a snap to setup, once connected you’ll see there is an update to install. Once that’s complete re calibrate the machine. Now you can simply go to your computer on the same network and type in the IP and bingo you’re in the printers web interface. Once there you can easily send files to the printer. You can do almost all the same functions that appear on the touch screen.
I haven’t tried using FTP to send multiple patches yet. But I will soon. Next I
Dowloaded the Elegoo Slicer (a super scaled down version of Bambu labs and Orca.) and installed it. It’s ok but you feel a little limited ith your profile choices. I did however find a profile to add the Centuri Carbon into Orca. Here is the link:
https://willowcreativ.com/download/orcaslicer-centauri-carbon/
So onward we go. First print off internal memory is the poop bucket. Flawless PLA print. So next PETG printing some upgraded parts for the spool holder etc. Will post results later when parts are complete. All in all the first day with the Centuri Carbon has exceeded my expectations. Is it a Bambu Labs experience? No but that’s a work flow difference, and coming from other printers like Flashforge, Creality Ender 3’s in various flavors and Elegoo it’s not a deal breaker. In fact I’m going to see if I can get Orca to talk to it by moving it to the Air Gaped network and see if I can send files via the slicer.
More to follow…

which specific improvements are there (i have the early bird version
)
My impression of the ECC is as such:
Pros:
- No-fuss PA6CF capable, out of the box, for $300. Unbelievable.
- The cold-air airblade gives you one face of your model that can get PLA to tolerate 80-degree overhangs if you blast it with fan. Also pretty incredible!
- Fast, accurate motion system. Easily on par with P1S.
- Interop with bambu-sized buildplates
(( this represents a HUGE value-add if you have even just a couple spare bambu buildplates…)) - Slice with orcaslicer, send via true cloudless LAN, and it sends 20x faster than the ■■■■ 2.4ghz antenna bambu uses on A1/P1.\
- No spyware phone app or cloud service injected into the workflow
Cons:
- The browser-based / webportal shown in the “Device” tab is pretty bad, needs controls to pause/stop/adjust, etc. As presented, it is solely informational, and you need to use other things (octoprint etc) to actually manipulate it. This probably will get patched in.
- The filament path/extruder motor struggles with VERY low flow rates, like you would see during scarf seams. The first and last segments of scarfs run at 10% or less flow, and it just cannot dial down that low and be smooth. I strongly suspect a spring-buffer in the filament path would completely resolve this, and will tinker.
- Side-hung filament roll could be located a few more cm away from the filament feed sensor.
- Like the bambu coreXY machines, the PTFE filament path is a little too constrained in the Z direction, causing sharper angles and maybe breaking brittle filament. A glass riser fixes it, just like it does in bambu boxes.
- Noisy sheet metal lol, could use a dishwasher blanket

Overall, it’s awesome, and very worth your money. I would still rate my surface quality at 0.12 layerheight from an A1 as a 9/10, the P1S as 8.5/10, and now the ECC at 8/10 mostly suffering from the low-flow inconsistencies. It’s astoundingly good for $300. At 0.20 layer height without trying to do scarfs, its indiscernible from the quality I get from a P1S.
Note to other users: Install the nightly build for orcaslicer. As of right meow, only the nightly releases have the full ECC profile, till orca does another major release.
One reason I’m seriously considering the Centauri is its connectivity - not just Wi-Fi. Bambu’s single-option model is a glaring shortcoming, and the multitude of connectivity issues documented here highlights they’ve failed at it. USB or wired LAN has become a firm requirement for me.
Has anyone used the Centauri’s USB connection? Is it faster? Smoother? My experience with Bambu’s poor connectivity has turned this into a critical factor. A 4 MB file taking five minutes to upload is unacceptable. In my test, downloading a 214 MB AVI from the printer via FTP (while idle) took 20 minutes -that’s ~1.5 Mb/s on a 54 Mb/s Wi-Fi link.
I realize this might stem from an underpowered MCU, but continuing to rely solely on cloud-dependent firmware without user-accessible alternatives - or a controller board upgrade - is unacceptable, particularly given Bambu Lab’s own framing of customers as “DIY-minded” in their blog commentary by Spaghetti Monster AKA Dr Tao, their founder and CEO.
OK I have some CAT 5 to USB converters now you have me really thinking… If that works it would open up a ton of possibilities…
I had never read that from Spaghetti Monster… Man there seems to be a bit of paranoia in those words. DIY’ers are how they got here in the first place.

Guess I need a nightly build version because it wasn’t in the version I had
Thanks

I haven’t had to slum it up with USB yet, but via LAN wireless it transmits a 14MB sliced gcode file between 2-3 seconds, before the slicer returns control to the user. It’s not as fast as it could be, but its 10-20x what bambu does.
