The little hook goes into the cardboard core at end of the spool can sometimes cause issues like jamming the AMS as the hook gets stuck in the tube under the AMS. Then you have to disassemble the entire AMS to clear it out. This is a such PITA task for something that can be easily fixed.
In a single spool setup, the hook can cause P1 series to print air as the hook is either unable to free itself from the cardboard core, or it gets stuck at the entry end of feeding tube.
I can’t remember which brand doesn’t use the hook (might be Polymaker), instead it inserts a slightly longer filament into the cardboard core and bent it slight, like 20 degree not the 90 degree in the hook.
Bambu Lab, please make this change and don’t use adhesive tape!
I just had two prints fail because of this bambu issue. I tried doing it with elegoo PLA and had the same problem requiring disassembing the AMS.
So I have tried Sunlu where the last centimeter of filament was about 2.5 mm instead of 1.75 and that got stuck
I had the tape issue with Bambu filament.
I just had the Elegoo problem two days ago because of the severe hook shown here.
It makes having the spare roll function if the AMS pretty unusable. But even if it just runs out, and you don’t have a spare roll setup, it still jams the AMS. The filament people need to figure this out. My weed whacker never has this problem
Yeah, I have a couple Polymaker spools which I bought in December and they all have the maybe 30 degree hook which doesn’t get stuck. The auto refill function does work well, I’m a bit concerned about the angled section wearing down the PTFE tube because it applies more pressure though. I am looking at the AMS Saver Snag Cutter V1.3 by Hexavalent since the recent TAPE SHENANIGANS (will probably print soon, just need the spare filament cutters to arrive which they should in a couple of hours). It does need PTFE and cutters but they are coming / on hand.
