If reality was a place we live in there at least the designers of functional models should be able to decide if third-party profiles are added.

If a designer create a precise model and someone comes along and changes it, it may well stop working.

Given the majority of users have no idea that profiles can be created by people other than the designer, the model and its designer get the blame.

Yes, it definitely depends on the nature of the model—whether it’s about fitment between parts or how a part fits something else, like the individual thickness of a table or something. In some cases, it can even be designed so that the user must scale it in a specific direction to achieve the right fit.
