Have there been changes to the engineering plate in its lifespan? I have several printers and almost always use the engineering plate and I’ve bought a few spares and replacements. All of them have a very slight texture to them and have “PETG/ABS/TPU/PA/PC” listed on them.
Recently someone gave me two engineering/high temp plates they weren’t using and I was surprised to see that the engineering side is ultra smooth and only lists “PA/TPU/PC” on the plate.
I’m just wondering if the engineering plate has changed at some point and how the older(?) version performed.
My original plate had PETG/ABS/TPU/PA/PC.
The second one had just TPU/PA/PC. I think i bought it back in March or April. I’m not sure.

I purchased an engineering/high temp plate two weeks ago and it has PETG/ABS/TPU/PA/PC label. It also has a slight texture as you described.
I believe the original/old engineering plate only listed “PA/TPU/PC” and was later changed to the updated filament list after it was found the “Cool Plate” didn’t really work well with anything other than PLA and so they both were relabeled.
Thanks, that makes sense. Every Engineering plate I’ve bought over the last 9 months has had the updated list. So I’m guessing these mystery plates I was given were the original ones.
I even print pla on my engineering plate and it works great.
Is there a link to the old engineering plate spec sheet?
The original was like enamel on metal. The replacement was more of a coating.
