Thanks for the link to the paper, I read a good amount of it. Gyroid is usually my go-to but sometimes all walls as well for functional prints. Sometimes adaptive cubic if needing a little extra speed or for potential insulation.

I have seen experimemts which demonstrate that gyroid has the best strength<>weight ratio, but 3d honeycomb is actually all-up strongest. Did you compare against 3d honeycomb?

I think what you are getting at is that gyroid is decently strong in all directions. However if you know specifically which direction the load will come from there are better patterns. The problem with predicting load is that unexpected events can occur, for example, the print is a tool, and the user holds it “wrong”.
