External filament not getting to extruder

I haven’t used the printer in a while (1-2 months) and today attempted to do a 2 color print. I have an AMS on the right extruder and filament loaded fine. However when I went to load the left extruder with the external filament it would get stuck. When I tried to manually push in the filament it doesn’t seem to get past where the orange thing is. I tried going from both ends of the tube to no avail.

Am I missing something? Is there an easy way to clear out what is stuck? I tried the same thing on the right tube (manually pushing in the filament) and the filament went much further.

Here’s a video https://youtube.com/shorts/THvu4uQczGY

Is this a soft filament like TPU?

It’s likely there is a piece of broken filament on the path somewhere or maybe one of the PTFE tubes is not fully inserted.

I’ve also had a problem with filament that has gone hard so it can’t bend through the tubes enough to feed

The orange thing is the filament buffer. It can get jammed by a piece of filament. You should be able to slide it left and right freely, and you should see it pushed to the right as the filament you feed goes into it. Work the orange slider back and forth to make sure it’s free.

Also make sure the PTFE tube is pushed fully in to the stop, it’s easy to get some resistance when pushing the tube in and think it’s all the way home. Work it back and forth to make sure it’s free

You can disconnect the PTFE tube from the buffer and see if your filament then gets through the buffer - in which case the problem is downstream.

Since you are not using an AMS on that side you don’t actually need the buffer so you could switch both the external and the internal PTFE tubes over to the TPU inlet as a workaround to get printing

It’s as if there is a gate blocking things that needs to be electronically open? Was thinking by doing this it would open still stuck.

here is another video, is it possible that it’s not clogged and a gear is stuck or somehow needs to open? Anyway I open things up to inspect?

I found this Replace H2D / H2C Filament Buffer and Cable | Bambu Lab Wiki

it really does feel like something is wrong with the filament buffer for the left extruder.
