Extruded inside print head/silicone

Hi, I’m just wondering–has anyone had the filament back up and push into the silicone cover? I went to check on my printer, and the plastic cover was off, not sure what happened to it, but the filament was still flowing. It was going back up and into the silicone cover, instead of out. Has anyone else had this problem?

Many of us have, it is an unfortunate situation we all will find ourselves in at some point.

The good news is, the printer will be fine. Provided you are careful removing the blob.

It is possible you can save the nozzle if you are very careful.

I strongly recommend you read this guide twice and try once (safety and planning are the key).

You are not the only one with this need who has asked in the last 30 minutes ish.

With that type of clog, be very careful with the thermistor wires in the back…or you will be buying a new heater assembly.

I had a similar issue and was able to remove all the caked filament after it was cooled down:

I was able to clean off the hotend, and it was ok to print with. I use an A1 mini, so I haven’t seen the nozzle you have, but you could try to clean it off with a toothpick or your nails, which I did.

I recommend getting a set of dental tools (amazon, etc.), needle-nose pliers, and flush-trim cutters. All three are useful to use with your printing and cleanup, and all three can be used to help clean up schmutzig nozzles. :slight_smile:

Yeah, I used needle nose pliers and a screwdriver to get the gunk off.

Seriously! When I first saw it, I just hoped the warranty for the printer was long.

It can be a bit concerning when you first see it, thinking the printer is totalled, but, patience as you found is a reliable friend.
