Wow, this extruder design sucks. So the filament is jammed in the extruder. I’ve torn it apart as far as getting the extruder out, but because the filament is bound from the extruder all the way to the AMS, I can’t get any of the PTFE tubes apart to cut the filament so I can pull or back it out.
I took the backside of the extruder off and loosened the tension spring, but I can’t push the gear out because it’s still jammed on the end of the filament. Still can’t get any of the PTFE tubes to release (yes, I know how they work).
A person should not have to cut and replace PTFE tubes just to unclog an extruder.
Well, I finally got it out with some force. Just as I expected, the filament was boogered above the extruder gear. Once I finally got the gear out I was able to cut it off.
This happened when switching from a PAHT-CF print to a PLA-CF print.
Same type of issues here. After 1 roll of PAHT-CF the plastic around the extruder gears is worm away and now constantly jams.
Part of the issue is that the AMS sets the nozzle temperature to 250 for all filaments during the change. The PAHT-CF will not flow out of the .4mm nozzle at that temperature. This causes the next filament to jam while trying to purge.
There is a cutter right before the extruder. Between the drive and the extruder.
Cut the filament there, using the built-in cutter, then use the panel controls to manually reverse the filament from the head drive-unit.
So I’ve been dealing with this issue with my works X1 Carbon. We don’t have an AMS, however, so far what’s fixed this issue was slightly loosening the extruder gear tension screw. When I took it apart the first time the screw was all the way up to the plastic, I left a 1mm gap, which still fit in the print head enclosure. Now it doesn’t seem to grind the filament flat at the extruder gears.
I checked the tension by passing a piece of hard filament through by hand and then turned the yellow gear to check the bite on the filament. It’s much smoother now, where before it was almost impossible to push the filament through by hand.
I’ll update if I have the issue again, but so far no problems.
