Extruder not grabbing filament when loading

My P1S has 2400 hours on it, so I’ve work through a lot of issues. This one has me stumped.

The filament won’t extrude when loading new filament. The first indication was just a little drizzle of filament when loading and nothing would print–no filament would flow out.

Since then, I’ve taken apart the extruder multiple times and even went so far as to replace the gears. Wondering if the hot end might be having an issue, I replaced it.

I can see when I load filament that the extruder spins to pull the filament, but it doesn’t catch. I can push it through while it spins, but it won’t do it on it’s own. I’ve got the tension spring on the extruder screwed in all the way.

I’ve tried it with a couple of filaments, both PLA and PETG.

I’m looking for any ideas. Many THANKS!

Thanks! Especially concerning the Filament Sensor! I’ve not had to deal with it in the past and the info I found previously wasn’t convincing me it may be the problem–so I wasn’t looking very hard at it. But your first link is a good one. Appreciate you posting.
