Extruder not working

So every video I look at or any source I try to utilize does not show how to load filament into the x1-Carbon WITHOUT the AMS. The quick guide only shows how to put on the spool holder. I tried to remove the AMS and just use the spool holder because I have some spools that are smaller than what the AMS will work with. From the few pictures that I found, it seemed that I needed to insert filament into the top PTFE tube feeding directly into the extruder.

I did that and my filament got stuck in the extruder. I have since removed the filament from the top of the extruder (I have not taken it apart yet) and gone back to the AMS, but whenever I load a new filament it doesn’t extrude anything new. I think the machine thinks it’s pushing new filament, but nothing comes out of the nozzle.

Is taking the extruder apart an option, because there’s none available in the store and I JUST got this unit a few days ago. It’s seeming like this would be my only option and I see NOTHING pertaining to anything like this anywhere.

Hello this can help.

This helped immensely. Thank you SO much. I had filament clogging the entrance to the hot end, apparently, and needed to pull it free.

My printer wont extrude any filament, either in a print or just by manual extrusion. I replaced the hotend and completely took apart the extruder, all was completely clear, with no clogs whatsoever. I even tried trimming the filament to a point, hoping that it had swelled up in other prints, making the diameter too large to fit into the extruder. No such luck. It STILL wont extrude. I dont know what else to try, please help, I’ve only had this unit for a month and dont want it to be a waste of money. It worked perfectly up until now, and i’m both woried and frustrated.

Does the yellow gear turn when you try to extrude filament?

I once had a small piece of filement break off in the filament runout sensor area. The clear plastic section of the extruder.

Maybe something stuck behind that switch and is slightly diverting the plastic. Stopping it from feeding all the way thru.

Just thinking way outside of normal stuff! :man_shrugging::thinking:

I’ll have to try that. Thanks for the idea!

So. I tried doing what you said, and I found a small piece of filament. However, the printer still will not extrude. The yellow gear does not rotate, it just kind of vibrates like it is trying to turn, but is caught on something. Any other ideas?

I keep a spare extruder and i would say swap it out. If you have one.

You can contact support if you want.

But it sounds like the gear is slipping on the shaft.
