Under “Device”, when I click on the filament in the AMS to enter the type of filament, one of the boxes is the “Factor K” which is empty. Bambu Studio will not allow me to enter the new filament without this setting. I have no idea of what to enter into that box.
Hi,
In the Device AMS, you can select a filament (e.g. generic PLA) and use it without needing the PA (k-value).:
The PA (Pressure Advance) profile results from the Bambu Lab “Flow Dynamics Calibration” procedure: Flow Dynamics Calibration | Bambu Lab Wiki
This feature permits the user to store the calibration values within the printer. So you can select for a filament, previously calibrated, the respective PA profile, which entails a k-factor:
I strongly advise calibrating the filaments regarding pressure advance and flow rate. I find this helpful feature, but other methods exist to use the PA values, i.e., storing values within the printer is not mandatory.
Thank you, I’ll study up on how to calibrate the flow.
For the flow rate, you can follow the BL wiki:
I am not sure if you are starting. If so, this calibration procedure will help to improve the print quality and precision, but your prints will work in most cases without it.
If you are starting 3D printing with a BL printer, I advise you to print and enjoy it.
Meanwhile, you may feel a need or have the time to run the proper calibrations.
