So I have both the black and gold PEI plates. Sadly, on the black plate, the paint wiped off when I was cleaning with IPA and the bed cannot be recognized. I have printed little stickers to replace it but they fall off all the time. I I like the black PEI because it doesn’t seem to stick as much to PETG which I print a lot. I also have the same concerns about the gold sheet’s paint. I get that plates are consumable but it shouldn’t be the paint that fails…
Anyways, the issue is that even though it’s stated, even straight from support, that you can ignore the error if the plate isn’t recognized, when I ignore the error and continue with a print, the first layer is horrible and the print fails eventually.
I have an open ticket with support and have sent in several examples and logs but they cannot seem to figure it out and give a good answer to what is causing this. To me, it looks like the Z offset is off after resuming the print or there’s an extrusion issue.
The crazy thing is I can not change a thing with the printer or the slice after the failed print other than putting the plate identification sticker in place and restarting the print and it prints perfectly. So, it’s not in the gcode.
I posted about the paint coming off a few days back and at least one person said they had seen similar things so I just wanted to see anyone else is seeing things like this.
For reference, this is on two separate X1C’s. One I’ve owned for around 6 months and the other less than two weeks. This happens with generic PETG as well as Bambu Basic PLA (green print).
