Failed to feed the filament outside the AMS

I have went through the steps on the wiki pages for the AMS. When you insert the filament it pulls the filament through the system fine, it takes it almost into the printer. I the steps in the wiki - LED light is white when the filament is inserted, yes. LED light is turned off when the filament is pulled out, yes. The load button on the screen does light up when I insert filament & goes off when I remove it. All 4 feeders are working fine. I removed the PTFE tube on the back of the AMS and loaded a spool and it pulled the filament threw no problem. I then took apart the AMS so I could insert the filament into the AMS internal filament hub to observe whether the feeder LED light comes on, The red light came on in all 4 slots.
when I start a print the bed heats up along with the hotend. There is no noise or any movement from the AMS. Then the error message comes up - Failed to feed the filament outside the AMS.
Please clip the end of the filament flat and
check to see if the spool is stuck. After
troubleshooting, click the “Retry” button.
Please help me out because I’m lost without it

Is your sliced file set to use the external spool and not the AMS perhaps?
