Fan on printhead running unsteady after print

Basically, as the title says. For a couple of days (after installing the laser module - don’t know if connected) my H2C is behaving a bit oddly.

Whenever it is done with printing, the fan on the printhead is running (to cool down?). Honestly, I do not know if it has always done this. Now the rpm of the fan are constantly changing and alternating between 10 & 100% every second or so. This goes on for like 20min and then it is gradually getting more silent (but still audible and alternating).

Anybody else experiencing this?

Sounds like it could be poor electrical contact at the connection point for the enhanced part cooling fan cable on top of the toolhead.

Haven’t had this happen myself or heard of it before, though.

The fan on my H2C likes to run as well when not in use, but not at 100%. I put mine on an Alexa switch to turn it off. I know they have a tendency to go through fans.

I too have the printer on a smartswitch because of that annoying PSU fan.

I think mine does the same thing. I also attributed it to “that’s how it’s supposed to be”.

I did take the front cover off a couple of times to do the regularly scheduled maintenance but I’ve always plugged in the cable all the way. Also, if it were a connection issue it would also do it during printing.

Do you also have or have upgraded to the laser version? As I am quite sure mine did not do this before…

Annoying, but that’s it. Printing is as good as always. Let’s hope for a FW upgrade.

No, I don’t have the laser upgrade. I never thought anything of it but now I am hoping that more people chime in here with their experience. Based on that, I may open a support ticket.

Now that I’m reading this again, I’m wondering if this is a programming issue where the control algo for the fan is “hunting” for a certain value or state.

Just as a test, I’d try setting the nozzle temp to a different value to see if anything changes - as I recall, the G-code command sets the nozzle temperature to 0, which is unattainable, so perhaps another value would get the control logic to run the fan in a more steady fashion? I’d try setting it to something like 30 degrees, just to see what happens.

I am fairly certain that setting the nozzle temp to 0 means “disable the heater”. There is no way to set it to the ambient temp since that is an unknown.

Ok - just to update, this seems to be a classic Layer 8 problem. It was indeed connected to my laser upgrade.

When installing the laser, I also added the exhaust Pipe and (main problem) added an attachment to guide possible fumes through the tilted window.

It seems the heat was too high in the printer as I received a message: unusual high temperature, please open door.

That is when it occurred to me.

Now it is back to relatively normal. However, a few things still do not make sense:

1.) if the temp is to high, why is it not venting (higher) through the back of the printer? That fan in the back is like a starting jet on 100% - I did not perceive any noise.

2.) I encountered the problem after the print - if the system wants to cool down the nozzle or toolhead - why not leave it on steadily? The alternating speeds do not make sense.

So, a bit odd, but I think the error is on my side.
