Having the option to make the top/bottom line direction go vertical or horizontal is helpful when trying to get a clean surfaces for flat prints like keychains.
Having the ability to change line direction to 90 or 180 degrees like in Cura instead of having the line direction on top and bottom surface locked to presets would be nice.
You can already do that. Change the Infill direction under the strength tab. Not sure what Cura has, but infill direction does also change top and bottom layer direction.
Itâs April of '24. Iâm using both OrcaSlicer v1.9.1, and Bambu Studio Beta v1.9.0.60. I have been using both apps for almost a year (due to different anomalies that exist in both apps (I find that I have to use one or the other to provision workarounds). And, what I describe below I do not know if such existed in previous versions of the apps.
What you have stated is correct, with the strange exception of the 1st layer of the âBottom shell layersâ which appears to be hardcoded to 45Ë of the objectâs orientation. E.g., if the objectâs orientation is set to 0Ë on the plate, the 1st layer of the âBottom shell layersâ prints at 45Ë relative to the object (and plate), regardless of the âInfill directionâ angle setting. And, if the objectâs orientation is rotated to 45Ë on the plate, the 1st layer of the âBottom shell layersâ still prints at 45Ë relative to the object (but, of course, now 0Ë relative to the plate).
However, the remaining âBottom shell layersâ do respect the âInfill directionâ angle, as do all of the âTop shell layers.â Presumably this is a bug.
Is there a way to prevent the infill direction from changing the top and bottom layer direction? Iâm trying to have a honeycomb at 0 degrees and top and bottom layers at 45. Cheers
Hereâs how I made bottom layers (and many other things that should be there but arenât) work.
Right click your part > Add modifier (choose the best shape for you).
Make the modifer surround the entire base of your part.
Lower the height of the modifier to 2x layer thick.
Move the modifier so that it is on the bed surface (0.00 in global coordinates looks at the center of the object, so the 2x layer thickness here effectively is working on just 1 layer)
In the Object tab, select the modifier, and under its settings, change the infill direction to 0 or 90deg (depending on your part rotation). Inspect the Preview to see if the lines are going how youâd like, and if itâs 90deg off, switch to the other.
For top layers, do the same, but make a different modifer and move it to the top layer of the part.
