GIF makes better cover photo, particularly for functional models. It can show the model in action.
Please no. I’m fine with GIFs inside or animate on mouse over. But being forced to scroll through a huge list of animated GIFs kills my browser.
Obviously we each has our own preference and experience :). But GIF file size is small and a commonly used file format online. Limit the length, such as a maz of 5 seconds if must, but bandwidth has not been a problem to browse them for me.
This is already a thing?
Nice. Did you link the model from some other platforms or upload it directly to Makerworld? I unloaded one direclty a couple of days ago and the GIF file was not used as the cover. If you uploaded it directly, then maybe I didn’t do it correctly. But I have heard that if one has the model using GIF file on other platform and link the model here it will work.
Imported from Printables, but that isnt the cover photo I have there as they do not have gifs playing in the thumbnail.
Please No!, Scrolling through Cults3D makes me want to have a seizure.
Maybe the solution could be to give users who don’t want to see GIFs the options to turn off GIF. There can be a designated jpg or png file as the alternative cover that will then be used. In a big enough community, there is not going to be a feature that everyone agree on, but it doesn’t have to be either or.
Hover to active gif, like youtube has for videos
All this animation stuff on one page is always annoying. Please no!
