I would like to suggest a small improvement to the workflow for custom and third-party filaments in Bambu Studio.
When creating a filament under Custom Filaments, Bambu Studio already allows the user to define a default color for that filament.
For example, I created the following custom filament:
- Manufacturer: Prusament
- Filament: PLA Blend Oh My Gold
- Material: PLA
- Default color: Gold
- RGB: 212, 175, 55 (
#D4AF37)
The color is therefore already stored as part of the custom filament preset.
Current behavior
When I later go to the Device tab and assign this custom filament to an AMS slot or External Spool, Bambu Studio correctly allows me to select the custom filament, but the color stored in the filament preset is not automatically applied.
The color has to be selected or entered manually again.
Suggested behavior
When a custom filament is assigned to an AMS slot or External Spool, Bambu Studio should automatically use the default color stored in that filament preset.
The automatically assigned color should of course remain editable, so users can still change it manually when necessary.
The workflow would then be:
Create custom filament → define manufacturer, material and default color once → assign filament to AMS / External Spool → stored color is automatically applied
Why this would be useful
This would make managing third-party filaments much more convenient and consistent.
If Bambu Studio already stores a specific color as part of a custom filament preset, it would be useful to reuse this information instead of requiring the user to enter the same color again when assigning the filament to the printer.
This becomes especially useful for users who maintain multiple custom filament presets with accurately defined colors.
I have attached screenshots showing the custom filament preset with its stored color and the subsequent filament assignment.
