Feature Request - Childlock?

Hi,
A parental lock would be nice, something slide to unlock, enter pin or something
Now child / cats / wife can touch screen and …change anything :stuck_out_tongue:
Of course as option, enable childlock or not.

Best regards,

For kids, put it someplace they can’t get to it. I know it’s not convenient but that’s kids for you.

As for the spouse, if they can’t respect your stuff and want to mess up your prints, cancel them, violate boundaries, divorce courts.

As for the cat… cats are @$$holes… not much you can do, next time get a dog :yum:

On a more serious note, a pin lockout like on phones would be nice.

for cats? They’re smart guys, they’d have to have… some sort of mechanism/lock too :>
I have to make a cover for the buttons because when they walk, they turn on pauses for me:>>>
And the screen itself won’t work, because they’ll struggle and figure out how to get inside :stuck_out_tongue:

Same situation here, need a screen lock just for cats.
It would be really annoying if I have to put my X1C somewhere on the balcony, for sunlight is always dangerous for plastic.
It happens every a day or two that I come home and find the print job is paused by my cat. Tried some screen cover and he could always get rid of it. I think a slide bar or pin would be great (if that was also broken into by him, I would consider sending him to school lol)

At first we don’t want X1Plus, and second it’s not block the buttons on the top

You can map the top buttons to what you want with X1Plus.

Both buttons can be ignored.

Ok, but still it’s X1Plus unofficial

Sure X1Plus is unofficial as you call it but seeing as your request is from 2 years ago it may be the only way to accomplish what you are looking to do.

I’m not calling it unofficial, it’s just how it is. Sure, it solves this one problem, but for that I lose support, the latest features, etc., etc. You buy Bambu because it simply printed and didn’t manually tinker with it all the time and struggle with problems  And so one plus and a lot of minuses :stuck_out_tongue:

Have you considered spike strips or an electric fence?

For someone who has a printer that is out of warranty, I honestly don’t see why you wouldn’t use X1Plus. The X1C series is 2+ years old. The firmware is mature. I don’t see any “new features” being added to the firmware other than maybe the proposed steppers being used for sound feature that the A series has.

To each their own.

We have, for example, software fixes for the printer or HUB or AMS. In the plus repository, we have a lot of issues. For example, we recently received TPU for AMS and it works, and in plus there is an issue and a problem right away and we have to wait whether they will solve it or not, etc., etc.

One of the X1Plus options for the top buttons is “Ignore”, so the buttons can be blocked.

As I’ve pointed out before, X1Plus is basically an interface enhancement on top of the Bambu firmware. It does not provide any of the motor or temperature controls, it just makes it easier to use functions and display results that are already available, if you could only figure out how to access them.

I’ve been using X1Plus since it was available and it it just works. I have not had a single problem caused by the improved interface. My X1C prints exactly as it does with the official Bambu v1.08.00.00 firmware that has been downloaded direct from the Bambu servers to the µSD card, because it is the official firmware, as provided by Bambu. It’s just stored in a different place and decorated with some extra bells and whistles.

I really have not missed out on any “latest features”.
X1Plus v1.1 used Bambu v1.07.03 firmware.
X1Plus v2.0 began using Bambu v1.08.00 firmware within a month of that Bambu release.
The only newer Bambu release is v1.08.02. The only new feature added was offline firmware updates via SDcard. That is just Bambu catching up with the original X1Plus installation method. X1Plus 2.0 is also now able to update online, without moving the µSDcard to a computer.
The developers have committed themselves to updating X1Plus as needed to work with new Bambu firmware releases.

I’ve not seen any reports of support refusal because X1Plus was in use. I have seen cases where Bambu provided warranty parts (within the original warranty period) in spite of X1Plus being used. There was a little pushback, and Bambu made it clear that their decision was on a case-by-case basis, but Bambu did recognize that X1Plus did not cause those problems.

I’ve yet to identify any “minus” from using X1Plus.

But what does it change?
There are problems as I wrote, e.g. TPu for AMS which AMS does not see in plus, there are many bugs reported on github.
This is foreign software which I do not want and that’s it.

It’s OK if you don’t want it. I’m sure TPU for AMS is more important than prints sabotaged by cats…

I agree with the original feature request.
We have our printer on display. A way to lock the controls would be nice.
You could be allowed to traverse the menu and get info, but not change/do anything.
We’re not looking for full-proof security as you could always just knock the print over or unplug the printer. It just to prevent curious people to accidentally do things and to let people know it’s not meant for them to operate it.
