I love the new feature that allows us to connect to printers on other layer 3 segments! With that new feature, plus the recent cloud outages, a thought hit me: Why can’t I also start jobs via LAN mode like I can with the cloud? The community has already demonstrated this is possible with MQTT, so I reckon it’s not an unreasonable thought.
The feature request boils down to two new features:
Manage the gcode files on the SD Card (in addition to send, offer browse/delete/rename/etc)
Provide the ability to start a job from that browse
This capability, all local, would further bolster the LAN mode capabilities and would be greatly appreciated. My printers are out in the garage and it’d be welcome to the workflow if I could start LAN mode jobs without having to go downstairs, outside, and in to the garage to start a print after sending it to the printer.
I can do this on my X1C—this is how I’ve been doing my printing since the cloud issues started yesterday. The only thing that really seems to be missing when using LAN mode is live camera access. Everything else seems to still work in LAN-only mode.
In LAN-only mode you can send and start jobs with studio. You can manage SD card files using the printer FTP server. You can not start a print from the SD card (which is what the op is asking for) and the camera doesn’t work.
Unless it got it in the last firmware update the P1P doesn’t have lan-only mode.
Annoying. I don’t give a ■■■■ about Bambu cloud features and would not have created an account or installed the Handy app if it were not a requirement for firmware updating.
That’s unsupported. Hence why I suggested it be an integrated studio feature. Yes, I do it, but a formally supported feature is preferable to an FTP solution that could disappear out from underneath us as they figure out how to harden these printers.
My printer hasn’t been logged into the cloud since downloading the last X1 firmware update. I block all studio internet access. Doesn’t stop me printing plates.
If in studio you are logged into a Bambu account (something I have never done) then maybe it only wants to print through the cloud.
The Print Plate option uses the cloud if your printer is connected to the cloud, but in LAN-only mode, it goes straight to the printer, without question. I am logged into my Bambu account but LAN-only mode still works fine, other than BS seems to crash if my computer goes to sleep.
It would be nice if there was a “Files” or “Jobs” option on the “Device” page of the slicer, like there is for “Media”, where every printable file on the SD card should be listed, including “Rename” and “Delete” functionality.
