I used to maintain a master file with 300–400 print assemblies, sorted alphabetically by plate, which I use daily for our product. I ran all 256 mm beds without issue—until I added the H2D. Now, every time I switch between the H2D, X1C, and A1 to kick off a customer order, the software:
Rearranges all of my objects, creating an absolute mess
Resets my print settings from one job to the next
As a result, I’ve had to create separate files for each printer profile.
Suggestion:
When a user creates or opens a file for a specific bed size, the software should automatically save and “freeze” that file under its printer profile (e.g., H2D, X1C, A1).
If the user selects a different bed size, prompt them to either add a new printer profile or update the existing one to match the new bed dimensions.
Offer an “Ignore Build Plate Layout” option that prevents the software from rearranging objects or changing settings.
With these features, I could simply:
Switch the active printer in settings
Drag the items I want to print (from their original positions) onto an empty build plate
Press “Send to Printer”
Return to my master file—still perfectly organized by plate.
Just discovered that if you go from H2 to X1 print preset and everything gets rearranged, you can press Ctrl+Z to undo, and at least you get your layout back.
The undo function does not work for me to put things back where I want them.
I have found if I arrange the plates as I want. On a per printer basis, (Plate 1=H2D, Plate 2=X1C…) then lock all plates and save the file the placement of everything stays put for the plate. Example: I open said saved file switch the printer to X1C select the X1C plate; everything for the X1C plate was where I set it. Everything else is a total mess. DO NOT SAVE. Close the file and reopen, then repeat for H2D everything is in the correct place.
Does anyone know if there is a way to permanently lock (sync) the positions to a plate size? This really is a must needed feature.
I have the same problem with X1C, P2S, and H2C. What I ended up doing is saving the “project as” and put X1C, P2S, or H2C at the end. Then I know what mf3 file works for what printer.
Yes, this is cumbersome, but saves me a lot of time.
I would really like something that would show me the various printer bed sizes and where my layout would appear on them.
A lot of my designs would actually print on any size printer, but I have no idea where that would be on an A1 mini (for example), and it would be nice to know.
