Feature request - stop the prime tower at layer of last color change

I just printed a relatively tall model (550 layers) that had color changes only in layers 16 thru 24. However, the prime tower continued to print (in a single color) the whole way up the entire 550 layer height, wasting all of that filament.

Please have the slicer determine when the last color change occurs, and stop constructing the prime tower after that layer. Thank you!!!

I agree. I was just getting ready to request the same thing. This seems like a very simple change to the slicer code.

Also agree. The last color part of the prime tower should be skipped by Bambulabs Studio slicer. It has no purpose, is a waste of filament and it extends print time.

This is already how it works for me. Every multicolor print I have done stops the prime tower after the last color change just like the OP requested. I don’t have any special settings turned on or anything, that’s just how it’s always been since I got the printer back in May. If your prints are doing something different then there must be something else going on. As you can see from this simple model, the prime tower only goes up until the point it switches to black.

Same for me. The prime tower stops at the last color change. Are you up to date with firmware and software?

If you are doing a traditional time lapse it stops the purge tower. If you are doing a smooth time lapse it still does not.

Ugh, you’re right, it’s the smooth time lapse!

(Still, no reason to continue the prime tower because of the timelapse IMO)

It need to purge the oozed filament from the extruder before continuing to print the part.

But it’s doing the cleanup using the poop chute? I mean, it may need re-priming but I’ve recorded some smooth timelapses without the prime tower in single color and it worked fine.

Anyway, I turn off the timelapse for multicolor prints and done :stuck_out_tongue:

Single colors don’t really need prime towers. The back corner strip gets printed and then right into the print. Barring pauses and filament spool changeovers, the extruder stays in operating conditions until the print finishes.

Where prime towers really help is when there are filament changes during a print. It can catch the little bits that may be left after a nozzle wipe and it also gets the extruder back to operating conditions before heading off to print on the model.

MZip, the point is that if you enable smooth timelapse, Bambu Studio will try to add a prime tower to the print, regardless of the number of colors.

With single-filament prints you can disable the tower (but bambu studio will warn you), and with multi-filament, if you use a prime tower, it will continue printing even after the last filament change, just to keep the smooth timelapse going.

The point of this thread is that It’d be nice to have a prime tower that prints only while it’s needed, and have smooth timelapses at the same time.

(When printing with a traditional timelapse, the prime tower behaves as expected)

Ah - my bad. I have never used smooth timelapse and missed that part.

Thanks for the explanation!

putting this here for others to find.

but in the preperation tab it will show the tower going all the way up to the top of the print. but once you slice then in the preview you will see it only goes up to the last color change.
