A feature that would be awesome that I know will never happen. It would be great to be able to preselect “Sport” or “Ludicrous” mode in the slicer for a specific file or part/object (or layer if that makes more sense). Kind of similar to selecting a primative and changing it to a negative part or modifier. There are a hand full of items where the bulk of the item is big and bulky with minimal detail that it would be nice to just select it and say print this part in Ludicrous mode" Then I don’t have to wait for the print to start and select ludicrous mode for it.
OR
I have a bulky part with fine detail on the top with labels.
Select the main body of the part and enable Ludicrous mode.
Select just the part with the text and enable standard mode.
This would allow the print to finish really fast but have the small detailed text print slow for best quality.
Another example would be you could split a file up into multiple parts and print the bulky part in Ludicrous mode and just have certain parts (or layers, if that makes it easier for the slicer) that need exact dimensional accuracy and smooth finish to print with standard settings.
By making it a selectable feature in the slicer/3mf file it will never be enabled on all parts which I think Bambu wants to avoid. But you can make it save that speed/mode for specific prints and we don’t have to wait for the file to start printing and then change the mode. If someone makes a part with a “Ludicrous” modifier Bambu would prompt on startup to verify use of that mode similar to how they ask to use standard print profiles or modified filament profiles.
Can you not achieve that doing it manually via the printer ? (A1) which would appear to be a more preferable solution/idea, asking because it something ive tried but not as a complete model or part , more of a just to see
As far as I know there is no way to select Sport mode or Ludicrous mode other than manually selecting on the printer(or in the slicer) after each print has started or each time you open the slicer and there is no way to do it for certain parts or layers of a print. I can change certain speed settings for objects with modifiers but it would be nice just to say print this model in ludicrous mode as it seems to change a lot of things that just work. Ludicrous mode on the H2D with HF nozzles prints insanely good.
Yes I understand, but that is not better control. That is exactly what I don’t what to do every time I start a print manually. If I print the same object out many times It would be nice to select that in the SLICER and have it retentive for that specific object or portion of an object. I also dont want to baby sit a part. Hit ludicrous mode after it starts, wait 45 min then have a pause setup for a specific layer and then manually have to hit “standard” for a dimensionally sensitive portion(layer) of the part. This is what I’m trying to avoid. If I could just have it do that in the slicer I can hit print, I’m done. I open the file up 1 week later. Hit print, done.
EDIT: I like having the manual option, I would like the option to ALSO do it via the slicer/3mf file.
I think you can achieve exactly the same by adjusting speeds and accelerations for that part in the process settings.
There should be no difference between activating ludicrous mode or increasing all speeds and accelerations by 66%.
I print with 10+ different filaments regularly due to application or brand/availibility. I don’t want to have to create or modify this for ever single filament that I use or may use. This is a lot of unnecessary work. If I could just tell the slicer “Go to ludicrous mode”, it is much much easier. Not to mention we are limited on the number of custom profiles we can have with their cloud based structure.
On a side note: Do we know for sure that they are changing ALL speeds, retractions, and accelerations? or are they changing select speeds and retractions? Is there anything else the printer is doing to accommodate the change? I don’t know and am not sure if Bambu has stated that that’s all it does. The description that I have seen is pretty vague.
If they had a simple prompt saying “file has sport/ludicrous mode active, do you want to enable these speeds” yes/no. I think this could mitigate any issues.
I know on my A1 mini Ludicrous mode is terrible. But with the H2D is prints really really well. Better than some other non Bambu printers print in normal mode. So for me on prototypes or functional parts the quality can be more than good.
Quick example from yesterday with the H2D.
This was printed out in Ludicrous mode with PLA, its a part I used to line up other items so there is some adhesive from the tape on the inside of the square section but this parts looks amazing.
For this part its not a big deal to hit ludicrous mode. But was merely showing it for the quality on the H2D. My A1 mini would need temp changes, etc to get it to print in ludicrous mode and I still have not had good print results in ludicrous mode on the A1M. Sport mode Yes. H2D different story.
AUTOMATICALY is what I want not manually and that ONLY selects it for the entire print. I want the option to select it for Layer 1-100 and have layers 101-150 be standard for example. Only way I can do that now is to setup custom modifiers for each object/layer or do a pause and then MANUALLY wait for the pause and change the mode.
If I regularly print out a file it would be nice to not have to remember that I always print it out a certain way.
i did it during a layer , like my earlier (edit) says ,i took some responsibilty for my actions , automatically, leaves printers open to unnecerssary ware/damage for print out the box owners / new users
That’s why there would be a prompt and set as an OPTION perhaps only in developer mode. Or just make it for personal use where these options would only be retentive for my machine. I didn’t spend thousands of dollars on a prosumer machine so it can be limited to work for newbies. Maybe they can put it as an option to only take affect or be selectable in developer mode like the rest of the advanced features. If the slicer is not in advanced or developer mode it would just ignore the command with a prompt saying, some features of this 3mf file are only available in developer mode or not available with your configuration if they want it more ambiguous.
Why should you adjust filament settings? I wrote process settings. You can just create a single new profile “Ludicrous mode” that you can use with any filament profile.
