Feature request: Upload limit 150MB - too low?

I have encountered a small issue when trying to upload some really detailed Lithophanes to Makerworld. My 3MF file is 210MB which is above the 150MB limit.
I know I can reduce the settings for my Lithophane to reduce the resolution and make it below the 150MB limit, but I am so pleased with the result with the high resolution that I wanted to share the high resolution model.

I would like there to be an option to increase the limit for uploads, maybe not for every user, but based on some criteria’s. There might be other Technical limitations within Makerworld, Bambu Handy or the printers, so I’m not sure if its easy to increase the limit.

Try decimating the model I doubt you really need that much detail for 3d printing. On the lithoplanes the flat surfaces have the same amount of geometry which makes the file sizes larger than needed.

I checked one of your Santa models that was close to 100mb and.2 million triangles. After lowering it to about 1 million I didn’t see a noticeable drop in quality in the mesh.

Try printing both and see if there is any visual difference in the 3d print.

I haven’t uploaded any Lithophane models yet, so none of my current uploads is affected.

The models I have uploaded is through Hueforge and are not created in the same manner.
But there is most likely much room for improvement on the models I have created from Hueforge.

The models I am working on at the moment is from Lithophane maker, but I am trying to get very high detail of the prints.

0.08 pixel resolution
0.12 color resolution
layer height 0.06mm
3mm max height
0.5mm min height

Those settings will unfortunately create huge STL files, but the result is amazingly good.
lowering these values will result in noticeable worse details.

Make the lithopane at max settings then reduce the size in blender with a decimate modifer to get under the 150mb limit. It should keep most of the detail in places you want it.

Thanks for the tips. I haven’t used Blender yet as I have done most of my modeling through OnShape. But I have had it on my to do list to teach myself Blender as well. This might be the small kick in the butt I need to start teaching to use it.

I’ll test your advices out during the holidays and see if I manage to reduce the file size while keeping enough resolution.

Yeah, I’m not too sure that decimating in Blender is going to work. It may take a considerable amount of time plus you would have to do all 5 stls from LMaker. Once they are decimated, they may not fit together properly and you might lose the high resolution you’re looking for. I would suggest going to .07mm instead of .06mm and make it a bit smaller, if you can. My lithophane profiles approach 140MB for 4 or 5 lithos in each profile at .07mm and 100mm size. You might also reduce the max thickness to 2.3mm or so. With such thin color layers, the litho can appear washed out with some backlights.

I’m glad to see the new system updates have increased the upload size to 200MB.
That will help a good bit on the issues I was experiencing. I was struggeling to keep good details when keeping within 150 MB, but the increase to 200MB helps a fair bit
Thanks for listening to our requests and inputs BL. Great updates to the system.
