First off, I want to say Bambu Studio has honestly made 3D printing more approachable and enjoyable for me than any slicer I’ve used before. The software already does a lot extremely well, especially when combined with the AMS and MakerWorld ecosystem.
That said, after spending a lot of time working with text embossing, multicolor painting, and detailed MakerLab models, I’ve run into a few workflow issues that I think could be greatly improved. Most of these suggestions are less about adding random features and more about improving how existing tools work together during real-world projects.
- Object / Shape Locking
Please consider adding the ability to lock specific objects, text, or shapes from accidental manipulation.
Right now, it’s very easy to accidentally select and alter the main model while rotating the camera or editing text. I’ve personally had situations where I thought I was adjusting text measurements, only to later realize I had accidentally modified the entire model itself.
A simple lock toggle in the object menu (preventing movement, scaling, rotation, or edits until unlocked) would save a lot of frustration and prevent accidental project corruption.
- Text Stroke / Outline Feature
It would be extremely helpful to have a native text outline or stroke option.
Currently, creating outlined text requires duplicating the text object, slightly enlarging the copy, recoloring it, and manually centering it behind the original text. Besides being time-consuming, this can sometimes create overlapping geometry or G-code issues.
A built-in stroke/outline setting would simplify this dramatically and improve reliability for signs, logos, guitar picks, labels, and multicolor projects.
- Improved Paint Fill Controls for Detailed Models
The paint tools struggle on highly detailed meshes, especially models generated from MakerLab or sculpted statues with dense triangulated geometry (hair, fur, wrinkles, textures, etc.).
Even with Smart Fill and Gap Fill, paint selection often leaks into neighboring areas because the surface is made of countless tiny triangles.
Some possible improvements:

Allow users to manually draw paint boundaries or guide lines that fill tools cannot cross

Add stronger edge detection for triangulated meshes

Improve region recognition on detailed organic models

Add “paint isolation” or temporary masking tools
This would make multicolor painting dramatically easier on complex models.
- Intelligent Multi-Color Sequential Printing
Another feature that could be amazing would be improved object-by-object sequential printing with AMS color grouping.
Example:

Blue objects in one area
-
Yellow objects in another
-
Red objects elsewhere on the same plate
If the slicer could intelligently calculate toolhead clearance and safe travel zones, it could potentially print grouped-color regions sequentially while reducing unnecessary filament swaps and waste.
The slicer already understands collision boundaries, plate limits, and object height restrictions, so expanding this logic into smarter sequential/color-aware workflows could significantly improve efficiency for multi-object plates.
- Surface Smoothing / Sculpting Tools
Another feature that could be incredibly useful would be lightweight sculpting or surface manipulation tools directly inside Bambu Studio.
Coming from a graphic design background, I often think about how useful “brush-style” editing tools could be for quick model adjustments without needing to move into separate CAD or sculpting software.
For example:

A smoothing brush that rounds or softens rough geometry

A flatten brush for leveling uneven areas

A push/pull style sculpt tool for small surface edits

Adjustable strength/intensity similar to blur or liquify tools in graphic design software
This could be especially useful for:

Cleaning up imported meshes

Softening rough edges
-
Fixing small imperfections

Customizing MakerLab-generated models

Adding or reducing surface detail creatively
Even basic non-destructive sculpting tools could dramatically improve creative flexibility for users who are not experienced in full 3D modeling software.
In the opposite direction, users could also intentionally sharpen or exaggerate geometry for stylized designs and artistic effects. It could open the door for a much more creative and intuitive editing experience directly inside Bambu Studio.
One additional thought: when multiple features exist within the same software ecosystem, they should work extremely well together rather than feeling isolated from one another.
For example, text tools, paint tools, AMS color workflows, and object manipulation all interact with each other during real-world projects. Right now, some of these workflows feel disconnected or require workaround methods that can introduce errors, overlapping geometry, or unnecessary complexity.
Bambu Studio is already powerful, but improving how these systems communicate and function together would make the overall creative process feel much smoother and more professional.
Overall, Bambu Studio is excellent already, and these suggestions are coming from someone who genuinely enjoys using the software and ecosystem. I’d love to see the workflow side continue to evolve as the hardware already has.
