Twice now, I have run out of filament during my print. Both times when I let the X1c run out of filament, I have needed to cancel the prints due to this issue.
When I get the notification to reload filament, I go to the machine, go to the filament screen and go through the load sequence. The problem is the printer seems to get stuck in a filament loading sequence. Even after the filament is purging and I click “done” on the “do you see filament purging” screen, it repeats this cycle over and over. Ive tried pausing/resuming print, I have tried unloading/loading filament several times, but regardless of what I do, If I can get the print to resume (which takes a combination of all the above things) it starts printing without any extrusion.
My last print was a 13 hour print, this happened half way through. I just wasted almost an entire spool of PLA + because I have to restart this print. Anyone have a fix for this? This has to be the most frustrating thing I have encountered.
When I had my P1P before getting the X1C with AMS, I managed to reload live, i.e. watching and waiting for the old filament to virtually run out, then once the tube is nearly empty I ran the new replacement down the tube and it was accepted without throwing up a warning about ‘runouts’.
A pain in the backside I know, but it also helped me get rid of some reels with only a few grams on them, but now I have the AMS I don’t have that problem, hope it helps
for X1C I have done it a few times and worked for me, most of the times via the AMS , opening and replacing the AMS . Remember that old firmware was a bit of an issue but still was working
- once the process did not work annoying - not sure why as was late and tired
- once had a tiny step in the print - also not sure why Could be that moving the AMS from the top
- and the rest of the times no issue
Probably try the process with small print , by cutting the filament to see what’s happening - i did that after the first failed reload just to learn but no problems
I don’t have that problem on my P1P but I do have an issue with how they control what happens after the filament runout. The dang thing doesn’t really purge or do a wipe and speedily goes back to where it was printing typically attaching the oozed out filament to the print.
So basically my only solution is to buy an AMS, or watch and pause the print myself before the filament runs out.
This is just disappointing, I have been really happy with the printer up until this happened. Even my Ender 3 had a more seamless filament reload procedure, and that seems like a dinosaur compared to my x1c. At essentially 25$ in wasted filament every time this happens (unless its just a quick trivial print that can be restarted with little loss) the money in the garbage is adding up quick.
