I am printing a jack o lantern with my X1C w/ AMS and ran out of ABS filament at 86% complete. I have received my refill but the only way i have to dry the filament is drying it with the X1C that would require me to remove my print from the base.
Is there a way for me to dry the filament in an oven? Does anyone know if this has been done? I feel like someone had to have tried this. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated
It has been done but I don’t remember if they said they were drying ABS.
What has been said is oven temperature control is a little dicey and an oven can easily overshoot and harm the filament. If you go that route, pre-heat and let it get stable and monitor temp with another thermometer to give confidence.
But ABS is a bit nasty on chemical vapors when heated. You probably don’t want that in your oven because those fumes will condense on cooler surfaces to re-volatilize next time the oven gets hot.
You can gamble and try the new spool without drying but you’ll lose the print if it doesn’t work. Good luck.
