Filament getting rejected in extruder

I have been using TPU on my P2S running off the external spool. I was having some feed issues with tangling and the filament not feeding through causing a few failed prints. I ended up having a blockage in the extruder. I followed the instructions on how to clear this by pulling it apart and then reassembling. The filament sensor was very fiddly which I can see alot of people have trouble with. In putting it back together the black clip broke.

I thought that I have got the filament sensor back in and have taped it down in place.

The issue I am having now is that when I try to load the filament that it pushes through the PTFE tubing all the way into the extruder and then gets rejected and comes back. It tries this multiple times before giving a feed error.

I have also tried to load the TPU directly into the extruder bypassing all the PTFE tubes and it still wont load.

My suspicion is that it is something to do with the filamant sensor? Could it be the gate not opening? Is this the sensor not being connected correctly or an issue with the buffer box?

Would a new filament sensor solve this issue? Do I need to get a replacement for the black clip that is broken?

Has anyone had this issue? Would love some assistance

What size hotend are you using? What kind of TPU (85a, 90a TPU for AMS, etc)?

I am using 0.4mm nozzle. Using 95A on the external spool. I’m fine with that I will print up a rear spool holder to help with the feeding issues.

My issue now is that the filament wont load. I’ve tried PLA and TPU

I would also suspect the filament sensor. Sounds to me like it doesn’t detect the filament anymore, so when the filament arrives at the extruder gears, it thinks something on the way to the extruder has blocked the filament and it retracts it and retries.
I don’t exactly understand what broke and if that is related or not, but I would swap the sensor next. I think that is one of the more common parts getting damaged.

Thanks for the reply Alex. What broke was the black clip that goes over the filament sensor ribbon. It is very fiddly and hard to get in and out when removing it from the extruder. I did manage to (I think) get the filament sensor ribbon in place and taped it in with electrical tape.
Would it be likely that the filament sensor ribbon was damaged and needs to be replaced?

Hard to say from remote. I think, both the sensor and the cable shouldn’t be too expensive. Maybe order both (and the clip if it isn’t included)? Then first replace the sensor and if that doesn’t help, also the cable?

I’ve had this problem twice now, both times solved it by replacing the filament sensor, seems to me the cable is very easy to damage when opening the extruder, changing the sensor is a bit tricky thou, as you have to almost take apart everything in the head, even the little motherboard at the back, but it sorted out my problems both times. You can get a new filament sensor for 10 euros.
