Filament or Spool may be stuck error

Hi
I am getting this error.

‘Filament or Spool may be stuck’

I can see the problem is that the filament has crossed over itself on the spool and has increased the tension - so the print has stopped.

I can fix it easy enough, however it’s happened about 8 times in the last 3 hours.

Any ideas on how to stop that happening? I’ve tried rewinding that section of filament but it doesn’t stop the problem.

Many thanks for any help!

i believe you’ve answered your own question, you have a crossed filament, you need to take care of it, and not just at the end part, you need to find the source and untangle it at that point, otherwise it will just keep repeating, hopefully it’s not too far and you don’t have to unspool too much, otherwise best to re-spool completely - which is a bit of a pain, and you’ll need to have one of those re-spooler designs to do it

eSun filaments are known for this. I just experienced this with an Inland ABS spool last night. It is common that the problem isn’t only the filament crossing but bad factory winding that causes this.

My experience has been that ,unless you rewind the entire spool, you’ll have this keep happening.

You should also check the filament for signs of stress. This is very obvious with the white ABS filament I’m using. You can see the stress marks along the filament after you break it loose. Going to see if Microcenter will replace it. Hosed a print last night and now I have to pull the extruder and clean the dust caused by the feed gear rotating on the filament after it got stuck and grinding dust off it.

Haven’t checked yet, but in the past this lead to a clogged nozzle about 1/2 the time.

I ran into this a few times myself last night. Only way to fix it was to find where it crossed and fix it. I also had it give an extruder error, but the cause was the same. Once I found and uncrossed the filament, it printed like a champ.

Look for “AMS saver” on MakerWorld, print and install. They will not completely remove the issue, but they help a lot against filament entanglement.

Many of us will have experienced this in the past, thankfully it is disappearing from a regular thing to an occasional annoyance.

It can even happen on BL refills if the filament spool is thinner than the spool, the filament being unwound will fall down the edges. Spool savers can help, but, not cure the situation.

I have a two different rolls of filament p, both silk, one copper and one silver, not BL, random suppliers.

They print well, great finish, need hand holding, it is annoying. But, I’m not wasting a couple of quality filaments because the manufacturer managed to tangle them during the wind onto the spools. Oh just have to live with it.

I can’t use a respooler before anyone comments p, my disabilities make that too difficult.

i hear great things about giving the refills a massage  , haven’t tested it yet, but will on my next change - i mostly get refills and it does happen from time to time getting stuck on the sides

Be sure to always hold on the the end. If it get’s away from you it can cause a crossover easily. Keep one finger on that end, or hook it right away on the spool holes.
