Wondering why the PLA refill costs more than the PETG, given its lower properties and print durability.

Honestly I would prefer same day shipping instead of price drops. The orders stuck for days between the processing and shipping status in the German warehouse.

I don’t know what they cost to make, but PLA is the better filament for display models (flexi-dragons and multi-coloured statues) and that’s what the majority of consumer printers are used for. For these models, PLA handles overhangs better, has better aesthetic surface finish, and is available in more colours and effects.

I wonder what prompted this. Economic pressures are building and the casual printers might be slowing down.

Plus, there’s appeared to be more chatter here recently about using other filaments.

Companies rarely just drop prices. This is likely a move to preserve market share and/or keep printers from going idle.

Still, good. Just curious. They aren’t altruistic.

Yup this is true

I live in Switzerland so it takes ages

My guess is they finally moved manufacturing in house letting them get more competitive. They can now afford to drop the price and are likely still keeping a larger profit.

Also with it moved in house it is easier to dynamically control and adjust supply levels. This can help to avoid having to price filament higher to help control supply. Time will tell if there is truth to this theory.

Now we just need Tim to chime in… :joy::rofl:

I see the advantage if that’s true but also a big disadvantage.

It could also mean new shades to all the new filaments, inventories getting orphaned, etc. As one burned by that when they have changed formulations before, it’s a pain and it can be expensive.

And of course there’s no heads-up if that is even the case. But it could be right. Anyone needing a lot of a color might want to look at options as a contengency.

I’d say that it’s wise keeping one’s filament options wide open, testing several brands and using them as either a fallback option or as the main suppliers if, quality and price wise, are better suited to your business or personal needs.

Still pretty high, especially for basic, compared to a few others out there, Jayo, Kingroon for example where you can get full rolls on the spool for less than $9. There is nothing special about Bambu filament other than a silly RFID tag.

Which costs maybe a few pennies. The desiccant pack probably costs as much or more.

Probably because PETG basic is such an underwhelming filament lol. Especially in comparison with the preceding offering.

Both of which I happen to reuse! LOL I open the packs and pour them in with the blue desiccant and dry it all at once. Have about a pound of desiccant from the filament spools. The RFID tags I cut up and tape them to the sides of the spools for matching non BL colors. 95% of the time the BL settings work out of the box for majority of filament.

If you need to find matching colors but with different providers check out https://filamentcolors.xyz

Well you’ve got me, I’ve just ordered my first rolls to try now it’s competitively priced.

Don’t you see those living in a bubble where only bb filaments exist

@Blaster - Is it really necessary to perpetuate some manufactured elitism of what filament people use? Fly that tribal flag high, huh?

Bambu filament has an RFID advantage that is important to some. And some of their filaments are pretty good. Some aren’t.

But what actual purpose did it serve to try to insult those who use it? Feel better now or something?

PLA comes from the fields. Fields take diesel to harvest. Diesel is at it’s highest price in history now. :face_with_spiral_eyes:
