Filament/Print failure..not understanding why this is happening

First couple days I didnt have a single issue, not a failed print and zero adhesion issues. I printed with PLA/PETG-HF/PETG-CF/ABS on both smooth and textured plates.

The printer/ams sat untouched for a week or so and now every time I try to print I am having the same issue regardless of the filament (PLA/PETG-HF), plate (smooth/textured), or file I use. I thought maybe the filament needs to be dry so I ran the AMS dryer function and the issue still persists.

The print starts out properly but 20-30 secs in the filament isnt flowing or setting on the plate properly. The rough portions of the print (not the yellow, I let enough of that print so it was thick enough to pull off, but that white on the textured was difficult to get off) are also sticking to the plates and very difficult to get off. Im having to heat the plate to 120 while scraping more aggressively and its still difficult.


Seems to be nozzle related, which I initially overlooked because the print was starting perfectly every time. Swapped nozzles and I havent experienced the issue on any plate with any filament printing the same file, but I considered other variables over the nozzle because the print was starting fine. Still not sure why or how its happening with that nozzle, Ill explore further when I have time next week.

You can try a cold pull on the bad nozzle to see if that helps. Might save you getting a new one.
However, the last image (nozzle almost scraping the bed) suggests that your nozzle wasn’t property fixed (sometimes the clasp is not properly closed), or in a worst scenario, the nozzle tip is sliding out of the bottom under pressure.

Drying filament is important. Even out of the packaging.

Ive since printed dozens of jobs with another nozzle and not had a single issue.

The interesting thing is holding the bad nozzle (0.2mm) up to the light I can see through it but holding the working nozzle (0.4mm) up to the light I cant see through it.

I had done a cold pull and had dried the filament. I did a cold pull again and that nozzle failed the same way again. It starts printing perfectly and inexplicably 20-30 secs in the filament starts laying down in a mess, smearing and clumping. This time I stopped and removed it immediately and those sections still were more difficult to get off the plate. The beginning that laid down properly peeled away but the smearing sections had points where it was stuck to the plate and needed some force to remove.

Ill buy another 0.2mm nozzle to see if the issue persists but Im at a loss to why its not there at the start of the print (which is why I didnt suspect the nozzle being the culprit).

Some nozzles (at least my 2 x 0.4mm tungsten carbide ones) came both with some filament in the tip. One was dark and the other was light colored filament.

I guess they do a test run with the nozzle as a quality inspection.

Not sure if they do that with all nozzles though.

I’ve seen somewhere here on another thread that yes they almost always arrive with a bit of filament in them as Bambu does in fact QA test (at least to some degree) the nozzles before shipping.
