Hello all.
I’ve had my X1 Carbon for about 9 months and use it daily. Up until now I’ve not had a problem.
I have been using PLA Basic or Matte only in my prints and it’s worked well.
Today, I wanted to try a roll of PLA CF to see how my item would turn out.
So, I put a brand new roll of PLA CF filament in my printer and started to print my item.
It started off great and got about 1 hour into a 3 hour print.
I glanced over at it and realized that the filament was no longer coming out of the hot end. I was just “printing air”.
So, I stopped the print and UNLOADED the filament. No problem.
I then started my printer over but this time I went back to my PLA Basic that has always printed beautifully for me.
The PLA Basic loaded up just fine, everything seemed to start good but again, I now have no filament coming out of the hot end.
There is NO filament clogged anywhere When I UNLOADED the PLA CF it seemed to do just fine and when it loaded up the PLA Basic it also seemed to load just fine. No errors and it all looks good.
It’s just that now nothing is coming out.
The Nozzle reached temperature (220 C)
So, I’m wondering why I’m getting nothing coming out.
Any ideas?
Is the yellow gear on the left side of the print head turning while it is “air printing”? It sounds like you have a nozzle clog. Here is the wiki article for dealing with nozzle clogs.
Yes to an extent. You may still have a clog if the yellow gear isn’t turning along with another issue. Chances are high you just have a nozzle clog. The easiest way to get back to printing is to swap another nozzle in. Methods to of clearing the nozzle are detailed on the wiki.
OK time for an update and let me thank you again for your help.
The yellow gear was turning just fine. I ended up with a clog. I was able to heat the nozzle and push the clog through. Now I’m back.
Question though. It seems to only happen with CF. I’m printing at 220 when I use it and I checked BAMBULabs and they promote it as “beginner friendly” and doesn’t clog. And yet, it seems to be happening a lot here. Have you heard any other similar complains with CF?
Thanks again
Jim
