Filament stuck on spool in AMS

Using a X1 Carbon with AMS and original Bambu Lab filament (PLA Basic), recently I have encountered several times the filament is stuk on the spool, and printing is stopped.
I’m not sure what I can do about this, it’s not that the spools are almost empty like I have been reading from someone else, in general the spools are almost new/full.

Does anyone have an idea how to avoid this?

You need to be careful when handling and loading filament that the filament end does not go underneath any of the other loops. This is what causes what you are seeing. You can fix this problem by unthreading the areas where the end of the filament loops under itself. When storing filament make sure that the end is secured either through the hole in the side of the spool or with any of the many printable clips available.

While not directly related to a Bambu printer, below is a good video about handling and storing filament.

I’m using a new spool, take the filament and guide it to its hole of the AMS.
Print several things, and don’t touch the spool.
However, after a certain amount of pieces printed, it gets stuck like this.

When loading a new spool you need to be careful to not let go of the end after you remove it from the side of the spool and are loading it into the AMS. This way it can’t loop under itself.

Your filament end should only ever be in 3 places: In your hand, in your printer/ams, or tucked into your spool.

Thanks for your reply and the link: I guess that’s where it went wrong, when taking it out of the bag and then not be very careful in keeping the filament under tension when sticking it in the AMS.
OK, lessons learned!

Sometimes, you’ll unfortunately get a spool that is just not wound quite right and it’s like that without any doing of your own. I’ve had a few in the last few weeks, all different brands, Jayo, Poly and iBoss. Especially annoying when they say tangle free, but given the large volume’s these places push, it’s inevitably going to happen sometimes.

This could also be an issue if you are using refills and installing them into a spool incorrectly.

This happens to me on Bambu spools when rolling back the filament while doing multi-color prints. It seems like its rolling it back way too fast and it cant keep up.
