So with the latest version of Bambu Studio 2.1.1.52 I synchronise my printer wiht the studio and I’ve got externally loaded Generic PLA on the printer. I then select that as the filament to use for the object, and hit Slice Plate. Once the plate slices I go to print it and it asks me which filament in the AMS, and I again select the external filament, and it then gives me a warning that this isn’t the filament I’ve sliced for.
Looking at the process: Objects section it shows “Filament 5” which is the external generic PLA filament. And in the Preview mode in the slicing results it says Filament 5.
On the pad of the printer, have you told the machine that the filament type is PETG/Nylon/etc? Non bambu-RFID filament won’t automatically assign on the machine.
On your computer, the Generic PLA filament profile is still of : “Type: PLA” in it’s dropdown?
On the physical pad of your printer, away from your computer, under filament, it shows that ext roll both: exists, and is of type “PLA”? Any fields missing?
I don’t have an X1c but to print from the external spool, dont you need to unload/uncouple the AMS and then load your external spool’s spaghetti into the machine by hand? Have you done that? Switch the filament from AMS to spool holder | Bambu Lab Wiki
No you don’t need to uncouple the AMS, you can just load it, especially if you have a four way adapter ont he back of the printer, the AMS goes in one and you can run external filament into the other, you just can’t use the AMS at all when external filament is loaded.
One clue is when I click on print plate it shows up with “Send my print job” and it’s picked another filament not the one I asked it to use, here’s a snip where you can see everything set correctly yet the warning.
Just to say I’m having the exact same issue. P1S here, three AMS units, trying to print from non-AMS via the 4-in-1 PTFE. I manually specified the filament type in Bambu Studio—PETG Translucent (Bambu) in this case, and I assigned this to the model I want to print. Slice, Print and the system selects a PETG spool from one of my AMS which makes me think it attempts a best-match. I change this to ext and it produces a warning which I chose to ignore and the print was as good as expected.
So long as your sliced settings are for the right filament, and you have the right filament loaded, it will work and you can ignore the warning.
The issue becomes if you say slice for PETG but actually have PLA loaded. Bambu tries to be smart and to prevent you from doing dumb stuff - in this case it looks like they probably introduced a bug.
Yeah I’ve had no issues printing with it but it’s annoying as I have to go double check everything to make sure it’s all set right. I find sometimes things don’t sync even though they say they did. just this morning Ioaded some PLA support filament and it said it was there on the printer, but it took several times syncing to Bambu Studio before it showed
I do not have an AMS; however, I fixed this warning by selecting the proper filament in the Device tab. When in the device tab look for the Ext (Box printhead Icon) (Just right of the Camera view) when you click the box select the filament that matches your project. Once you do that go back and slice. When you go to print the warning should be gone.
The downloaded model does not force anything. The settings and filament selection is made by the creator of the item. All the settings can be changed to something that is compatible with the filament one is intending to use.
I can confirm, I have the same problem. It is kind of a software (bambu Studio I’d say) issue since one of latest (maybe last) update. Before You had to uncheck use of AMS on SEND TO PRINT screen when wanted to print from external spool. Now it is a bit different, you just switch between AMS/External. And something is not done right here when it was changed. Until it is not fixed I just put same filament in AMS1 slot and when switching to External spool IGNORE that warning. Haven’t had any problem. But this has to be fixed.
I was wondering is there was an update about this bug. I only have Bambu Lab Basic PLA and I selected Basic PLA and yet it tells me no PLA is selected and I can only pick ‘extern’
The RFID tags could be even more onerous. The patent on the tag system also mentions tracking how much filament has been used on each spool and invalidating tags with serials it already knows are used up. For now, people can respool Bambu spools over and over with other filaments or just tape RFID tags to other spools.
I don’t think they’ll do that but it’s obviously just a guess. That would be a power move to add anti-consumer behaviors to a system bannered as being convenient and would likely spark a big backlash. I suspect it would be an effective way to cut market share in half in short order but also just a guess.
They could do lots of things but so far they do seem to notice when users get particularly upset and I think that would be an understatement on customer reaction if they were to do it.
I wouldn’t worry about it. Could be wrong but I don’t see it happening.
