If anyone lives in Australia, Australian consimer protection laws say that in a change like this, they must let you return your printer, even if you bought the printer in the kickstarter days
Please tell me how the new firmware is beneficial for security? So far I only heard of downsides for the user and more power for bambu. If it was about security they could have used something that is called OAuth2. You probably haven’t heard about it, it’s rarely used and a very new tiny project /s
You own the physical machine not the ip/firmware that runs it , its actually no different with any kind of electronic device , take Microsoft, windows, Apple, iphone they decide, whats what and they constantly get the same arguments from people who have decided to throw tantrums rather than work with it …
Tell that to the farmers…
Just because it’s the new trend, doesn’t make it “right”.
Can we stop excusing bad corporate behavior?

I dont need to and i think it should be kept on topic , they say the truth hurts and it shows
Just because you don’t value security that doesn’t mean others don’t, again, security usually results in more friction for the end user, by design
Sure, this implementation, but this won’t be the only time they try to change it, security never works perfectly the first time, just ask apple and microsoft, everyone starts somewhere and this will no doubt continue to be revised and improved upon
This is a non sequitur.
It was one company profiting off hacking another company’s game, causing harm to the users’ experience and thereby harming sales.
It has nothing to do with hardware, at all.
And it will be, you can enable developer mode in the future and regain full access to MQTT but without access to the cloud, optional security doesn’t work with the cloud
You’ve never owned the software, you own the physical hardware and you’re free to not update your firmware and free to keep the machine in LAN mode, its no different to sony requiring you to update your firmware to play online pn a playstation console or world of warcraft requiring you install an update to continue to play the game
I`ll rest my case with your comments
So, you’ve seen the light then.
BL is causing harm to our experience by changing how the software works.
Thats how security works, bambu is making sure things that aren’t allowed to interact with the printer can’t interact with the machine directly, that IS going to result in more friction for the user as bambu changes how things interact with the machine
This isn’t a new concept
I’m aware of it, they chose not to use it because they want to retain control over their ecosystem, after all that does belong to them and if we want access to their cloud ecosystem we play by their rules, you are entirely free to stick your machine in LAN mode and to use MQTT as you have been currently, the update isn’t mandatory for that to continue to function exactly as it does now, but if you want to use their cloud services then you have to follow those requirements
Why even have Bambu connect when no one else needs this false sense of extra security? If someone is truly determined to attack a network infrastructure, nothing that’s still connected to the World Wide Web can stop that…
You can state whatever you want as good faith but it’ll never make sense until I see a majority of competitors doing the same. Even then I’d bey most wouldn’t wall off open source
Yes they are changing the workflow, but microsoft does this all the time with windows, apple and android do it all the time with changes to their OS’s aswell, same as sony and nintendo do with their consoles etc
You seem to think no company ever changes things in ways some small section of the userbase doesn’t like
Nothing in the bambu ecosystem was open source to begin with, its always been closed source outside of the slicer, and even then the network plugin the current slicers use is still closed source
“But mom! Everyone else is doing it, why can’t I?”
Considering the hacks performed against bambu lab and your lack of understanding of how intellectual property works (updates) to firmware or to prevent any kind of access to the servers (take that up with amazon) that they choose to limit , nah like ive already stated its a tantrum ,lots of people do it when they cant get there own way , so perhaps orca should get there own house in order first , it all belongs to bambu lab apart from what is open source.
Everyone is doing it because it makes sense, security means nothing if you allow unsecured machines in to the same playground, this is why companies require software and firmware updates when it comes to accessing online services
Now you don’t have to like it ofc
But that is the way it will go as more and more things rely on cloud services
That was the most I’d allow myself to be a part of… it’s okay though. As most have said just never upgrade firmware.
As dr Tao said “it’s taken competition 2 years to catch up, that’s good”
So luckily Bambu as of now doesn’t have anything you can’t find or get from somewhere else. ![]()
