Yep, thanks! Exactly as said. Needed to logoff and login and the Settings appeared. Goodby Bambu Studio. Was anyway to much of an advertising platform already…
it’s not impossible just very very very unlikely… i do see them putting proprietary material but on the resin machines if/when they launch their own, but even then i think it’s still a low probability, only if they go for a very high end resin machine, not really focused on end-users, but targeting instead the industrial customers.
for FDM their key market is consumers, and there is a lot of competition, it does not make any sense to restrict filament, and i don’t see it ever going that route
You really just want to continue to inflame a situation and rile people up, don’t you? Just become something is not against the Bambu community forum’s rules, doesn’t mean you should do it. Basic rules of etiquette and societal norms also apply, as well as various legal standards and requirements.
Right, but its not against the rules, its not against actual societal norms and its definitely not against the law or against any standards
When you address someone you address them directly when you’re responding to them, thats just how conversation works, sorry if you don’t like it when people respond to you directly to address something you said
This is worse than not ideal decision. I’m NOT upgrading until you get this sorted with.
Let me tell you something: The most effective way to get rid of a troll is to simply ignore him. It really works, trust me.
Very true… haven’t felt the need to use the “Ignore” function on this forum until now.
So by your logic, and I use that term loosely, If the manufacturer of your car comes back to you and says “for your Safety We are locking you out of the use of your power windows and A/C. We don’t want you to catch a cold” You’re OK with that? But wait, the feature worked when you bought the car. Oh Well, that’s just business. Things change.
For many of us thinking folk out there, things are a little deeper than a single myopic Reply. Many of us have legitimate concerns regarding the future continued usage of the product which we have bought and paid for. BL is in fact displaying a blatant disregard for the concerns of their existing customer base. They could find a way of addressing these issues and still maintain a reputation of trust. They just choose not to. It’s ok. It’s their business and their choice. As I read these threads, the common view seems to be “Its a great product”, but the company behind it is losing or has lost trust. I agree, so my future purchases will go elsewhere. None of your numerous comments have added a single thing of substance to this thread. They are designed only to inflame an already pissed off community. No one cares what you think. Many times over
Hi h3lio, my sincere apologies. My reply contained thoughts regarding many threads of the same topic from different directions. I was negligent in tying all that together. There are many, myself included that the reason for the proprietary nature product is leading to an eventual paywall Subscription to use Studio. That’s fine and as an option I for one would choose pay for it. However I am only one of many users. Some may not make that choice. The problem people seem to have with this whole thing is not about the security update. It’s the forced nature of how it’s being implemented. Delegitimizing the concerns of existing customers regarding the loss of functionality they are accustomed to using is not a positive tactic toward instilling future trust. Its simple. I get it, I fly quads. I know DJI is a closed proprietary eco system. That’s fine. The products are good just far more expensive so I choose to go a different path. Fair. Apple is also a closed system. Good product but I left for android after about IP4. I want to use my phone my way. Never looked back Also Fair. That said, how many times do we find ourselves having to agree to a change of terms we don’t agree with in order to continue to use a product we already own. I have a TCL Flat screen that was bricked unless I agree to additional advertising and use of my personal information. In that I do not agree. No Way To Disagree. no option. I’m not knocking BL. An eventual paywall toward usage is the only logical thing that makes sense. Cloud service and bandwidth is not and inconsequential expense. Bonus if its free, but really? The problem for many, no, for Myself, is that when I see BL doubling down on something which so many existing customers are expressing displeasure with, I have to wonder why. Some like BL Studio.
I’m there. Some don’t though, and that should be equally respected. So as with DJI (Last I checked) if I fly DJI I use DJI goggles and all other peripherals. If I use Iphone, I use it only within the apple eco system as they deem worthwhile. If I use BL I’m locked into the BL system or some functions I bought and paid for won’t work. That is the problem. Choice to use my purchased product the way I choose. Could BL solve this? Of course, unless that’s not the model. This is not a rant. I hadn’t intended to upset you. My troll comment was actually regarding one person who has replied to virtually every comment with nothing of any substance. Just dissent. I read everything that everyone has to say, whether I agree or not. My comment was in agreement to and in addition to the person I replied to. I have not put down BL or any legitimate contributor to the thread. I think we should all be concerned with every company that loses sight of the importance of customer satisfaction. Unfortunately customer Lack of service is becoming more the rule than the exception. Our only choice is to speak loudly or jump off. I would prefer to continue to use the BL products. They’re good products. I don’t wish to jump off. I’m hoping BL will hear their base and find a way to address the issue. Instead of hammering an update down the throat, go back and write an update that addresses concerns from both sides. Add the driver support to Studio to allow direct control of the printer without the cloud connection. That’s not the model.
The issue is you’re lying and being a contrarian to push your narrative
Just a reminder regarding the Community Guidelines
Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree
You may wish to respond by disagreeing. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people.
I see, that Bambu Lab still blindly forces the most stupid protection which protects nothing more than company’s money income.
I’m working as IT specialist and programmer for more than 30 years and have never seen such ridiculous argumentation as the one shown by Bambu as justification of protection.
Similar stupid is argumentation, that user can still use Orca Slicer, but need to do some “extra” steps. This is similar like car manufacturer will change software in the car and will argument, that user still can set seats and mirrors as he wishes but have to use buttons which are in the trunk. Does it hurt comfort of the user? Of course. But still setting seats and mirrors is somehow “possible”.
There is a bit of mess in the USA now, but I’m pretty sure that EU authorities responsible for guarding customers rights, will “teach” Bambu in very painful way
that “stupid argumentation” can cost a lot of money. And Bambu will need to reverse it’s “safet” upgrade.
BTW: Not making upgrades is not the solution as upgrades can fix errors so Bambu will not be able to use it as excuse unless it will provide parallel upgrades without “protection” build in.
These tech companies never learn other way than being smashed by authorities with heavy hammer.
Thats what safety recalls are used for when there is actually a reason to do so yes
Thing is, you have concerns regarding things that were never advertised by bambu in the first place, the same way sony and nintendo update their software to prevent people using the consoles they purchased in ways that they did not intend
This isn’t a new concept and has been true for quite literally decades
I think i missed the part where i’m supposed to care what you guys think
Please do point out anywhere i have actually lied, i’ll wait
Exactly the real point. Closed ecosystems have been the rule for longer than many of the new users of 3D printing have probably been alive. Get used to it. This is the world into which you were born, not the entitlement fantasy.
Yes, closed systems have been the status quo for a long time, but both open source, and hobbyist efforts have gone a long way into informing closed source works. Wanting something that is currently “open” to remain open is not entitlement. It is a laudable wish, but the reality is Bambu Labs will do what Bambu Labs will do.
We can have the freedom to agree with, or disagree with that, just as we have the freedom to buy or sell their products. All we can hope is they take note of the criticisms, and give them due consideration, in accordance with their long term goals. If they are trying to be the Apple of 3D printing, well, it’s going to be a closed shop. And if they to carry on this authorisation control as a “security” model, well, it’s going to end badly for them when it all crashes and burns, since it is as secure as wet toilet paper.
I would much rather see they release hardware that actively encourages 3rd party accessories, with a robust API to allow for 3rd party software integration. Thus allowing for everyone and their dog to do what they want with the printer. As well as providing an environment for innovation, and allowing Bambu to make iterative jumps inspired by community efforts (which are affectively free R&D for them). The ball however is in their court, and I hope they don’t drop it too many times!
Actually lied…maybe never, but you have shaded the truth a lot by omission and hoping people don’t read too carefully. For example (from another thread):
“Mainstream” support for Windows Server means “feature updates and minor bug fixes”, which isn’t something most people really care about. What people care about is security updates, and Windows Server 2019 still gets those for another 3 years and 9 months.
But, you didn’t actually lie. You merely inserted “mainstream” and referred to “older versions with paid extended support” so that people who don’t understand the Windows Server lifecycle would assume that only Windows Server 2022 would receive updates without paying Microsoft.
It does indeed, but due to it falling out of mainstream support you’re extremely unlikely to find anyone creating brand new software that targets that version of windows server, which means bambu would have no reason to target it specifically if they were planning on releasing it specifically for windows server, that being said desktop apps will for the most part run just fine on a server version from the same era given they are basically built from the same base
Its not really a distinction that matters much to those who aren’t super familiar with the server lifecycle as the majority of those will be desktop users, but by all means clarify it for them, its not information that is really going to change the outcome and it frames it in a way they can relate to in the desktop environment up until this point
Security: I put my P1S on the sub-net I used for my delta and octopi, this WAS segregated from the outside world until I set up the P1 and had to make holes in the security for an insecure system to connect to it.
I really don’t need the security that is on offer, all it’s offering me is more insecurity.
I do want to be able to access all of the available functionality without data streaming through a 3rd party.
I DO NOT want to be reliant on a third party server that may or may not be working in the next 5 minutes to be able to fully access the functions of the printer.
I was going to buy one of the X series printers, notice the WAS as it isn’t now going to happen.
What I will do is get another delta and another core xy. The T1Pro delta HAS been purchased already and in transit. When that’s been dialed in I’ll sell the P1 and get someone elses core xy.
I am a great beleiver in putting my money where my mouth is, I’m typing this on the last PC in the house that’s still using windows. ALL of the other 5 are now on various flavours of linux, are all running significantly faster than they did a few weeks ago. Apple was canned years ago after they started to screw over development and developers.
In future what I won’t do is recommend anything bambu to anyone, not even to people that I don’t like.
No one from babmbu will be reading this but “congratulations guys, good job on the PR front”.
First, way to go on that backpedal and moving the goalposts. Your attempt in your original post to confuse people by using words that they may not understand has been called out, and now you can claim that “it doesn’t matter”.
But, again, this is completely, entirely wrong.
Absolutely nobody cares at all about Windows Server feature updates. As long as the OS is getting security patches, then software gets targeted for that version. In addition, major bugs will be fixed.
Phrases like “for the most part” are called “weasel words”, which seem to be one of your favorite ways claim you do not “lie”. or are not “wrong”.
But, again, you are wrong. The reality is that I have seen far too many “desktop apps” that run fine on Windows 10 and absolutely do not run fine on Windows Server 2022.
