Firmware update wireless issues!

I have just updated the firmware on my X1 Carbon (01.08.00.00). Now everytime I switch it on I have to point it to the correct wireless network! once I do this all is ok till the next time I switch it on?
Any ideas how I can make it keep the correct wireless network settings as it’s a bit of a pain!

What happens if you forget the network? Or do a factory reset and set up the WiFi again?

I did forget but still does it, not done a reset or set it up again, I’ll try tham next, Thanks :slight_smile:

The latest firmware release notes list a security addition for 802.11w WiFi support.

There are many good feature upgrades in this firmware, some of which are in preparation for the forthcoming Bambu Studio release, which also has many new features, feature improvements and bug fixes in the latest Beta.

The firmware update did not have any negative effect on WiFi for my X1C on the current Bambu Studio or with the latest Beta.

It’s a disaster, after I initially had problems connecting to my Wi-Fi network when I received the device in March, because my Wi-Fi key contains special characters and more than 60 digits, I had to shorten this password to be able to connect for the first time. After that, a firmware update was made immediately and I was able to return to the old password complexity. Today I update to 01.08.00.00 and the WLAN connection remains permanently disconnected. Restarted printer, restarted router Re-entered password with more than 60 digits 3 times without success. Reduced password complexity and lo and behold, it works again. BambuLab I don’t accept this, I want to continue using my password complexity and how about a WPS Connect function, I’m tired of entering the password via the display. Fix the firmware immediately please and no I don’t want to downgrade the firmware I want to benefit from the new features and the other bug fixes. I am a bit angry. Thx

more than 60 digits? I’m speechless. Out of curiosity why?

So you’re using a password generator/safe to create long, complex passwords that are hard to crack using a variety of techniques. Good practice, but anything longer than 30 characters is unnecessary and will take eons to crack even with a supercomputer, and those government efforts are reserved for a few people more “interesting” than your average Joe.

hacking WPA2 is no longer a big thing thanks to GPU clusters and cloud computing only fools or newbs believe a WPA2 key is secure. The longer the key, the better.

You must have some really shady neighbors to need that. YOUR browser history is most definitely safe :wink:

I was having a similar issue since the last two firmware updates. I tried your factory rest and it seems to be holding. I’ll update if it turns again.

Hmmm. Maybe Bambu Labs should fix how the printer deals with the passwords. Don’t ask users to change their existing passwords that work with hundreds of much less expensive gear without issue. The problem is the 3D printer.

Nimbus, I totally feel ya. I’m using a 63 character fully random Wi-Fi key. Every time I shut off my printer (or it loses power because of lightning storms in Central Florida), the printer can’t re-attach to the network. Oh, every other device (many) on the network re-connects fine except for the 3D printer. Checking the printer, the signal strength for the desired network is great. Soooo… I click “Forget” for that network, then re-setup that network. Painfully enter the 63-character key… again. Last night I had to do that three times… once for a stuck piece of filament from the AMS that required taking that apart to clear it, once again for the firmware update from Bambu Labs (which apparently reboots the thing as I would expect), and the other was when I typed the key in wrong, apparently. Which brings up another issue: If I type in the Wi-Fi key wrong, stop wiping out the entire field. This forces the user to have to start from scratch. EITHER keep the wrong password in the field, allowing the user to unhide the password and then edit the offending character(s), OR get a less painful way to connect the printer to the network. A LOT of other smart home devices have far better network connection processes… use one of those. Create a temp network from the printer that the user connects to with their phone, then the printer app asks for the key, at which point the user can copy/paste the key from a saved copy of that key. Easy peezy.

So, Bambu Labs, if you are listening (?), you have a flaw in your firmware. If you are limiting the size of the Wi-Fi key you save to the non-volatile memory, then fix it. Wi-Fi keys can be up to 63 characters long. You better have enough memory on that printer to handle that many characters. If not, shame on you. Your Wi-Fi circuitry and the code that uses the key seem to handle it just fine, it is just the part of the code that saves and/or retrieves the key.

Or give us a reasonably-priced hardware add-on to upgrade our printers to have wired networking. Blows my mind that this wasn’t included.

And for all you other forum users who are password-shaming Nimbus4 for having the best possible Wi-Fi key – stop it. If you aren’t part of the solution, you are part of the problem.
