Firmware updates new A1

I understand the firmware updates are done through wifi and thru the cloud. I will be running my A1’s and Mini’s in LAN Mode only. Do the newest machines come with the latest firmware? How often do they come out with updated firmware? And what is the latest firmware for the A1’s assuming they both use the same firmware whether full sized or mini? Do the printers know when a new firmware version is released and notify you on the screen display? I plan on connecting to the cloud if I have to when I unbox 4 printers and update if necessary and then switch to Lan Mode.
Thanks

Hi @Voltage

I got my A1 a few weeks ago and after setup there was a firmware update right away.
My printer is connected via WLAN and therefor i was notified on the screen.
You can also manually check for updates directly on the printer screen via settings - firmware.
For the A1 the latest firmware is 01.03.01.00.

You can find an overview of the recent updates in the bambulab wiki.

Thanks for the info. Are you going to run in Wifi/Cloud mode or switch to Lan Only at some point? I have all my computers hard wired through switches etc but my router does has wifi turned on. That said, it doesn’t work well at the other side of the house (converted garage) but I have computers hard wired along with my MK4 so I am adding an access point for the A1’s to solve that problem. But I wish the A1’s had an ethernet RJ45 port on them.

Yes, i keep it in Wifi/Cloud mode cause it is really nice to print stuff with the phone app.
This also works when you are not connected to the same wifi with the mobile phone.
That’s great if the kids send me something that they want and I am not at home, so i can tell them to turn on the printer and I just open the makerworld link in the phone app, select the color from AMS and hit print.

But i also wish they had an RJ45 port, as I do with a lot of tech products nowadays…

Oh and to add, i use the phone app mostly for just basic and not really complex things.
For everything else I use BambuStudio on the Macbook or Windows PC, cause you see a lot more informations there and can manage the print way better.

I really love the Filament overview in the Preview tab, cause you also see how many filament changes happen and that’s a good indicator to choose if I print it.
Last time i had a model from makerworld that would change filament 97 times, that’s an absolute no for me, as it would produce way too much waste.

Thanks for the added info. I see your point on using the cloud way but in my case I prefer without. I don’t even like wifi but in this case I am stuck having to use it. But from what you say the A1 is pretty much able to be trusted if you can let your kids start a print whenever they like.

I’ve got my new A1 mini running on Wifi mode but can’t connect it to the cloud using the Handy app as I don’t own (or want) a smart phone.

Does anyone know if the printer will still check for a firmware update or do I really need to to connect it to my Bambu account using the Handy App for it to do this?

Cheers

Paul

If its connected to your home wifi via Bambu Studio, yes, Bambu studio will push the update to the printer.
You can update Via SD card now also.

Hi,

Thanks for that - I’ll fire up Bambu Studio and see if I can update the firmware that way.

Cheers

Paul

If can’t find it, its under Device at top then Update on the left hand side.

Thanks for that - I’m going to give it a go today.

Just a quick update - I managed to update the firmware via Bambu Studo - just running a calibration after cleaning my build plate.

Got to say this is the best 3D printer I’ve just used (my other printers a Creality Ender 3V3KE and it’s not in the same league as my A1 mini) since I started my 3D printing journey last September.

That is a brave decision in a world that seems to demand one. Well done for sticking to a position.

Yep - I’ve got a good old fashioned flip-phone that’ll be upgraded to a feature phone once they turn off 3G in the UK.

Apart from that, I’m not a fan of touch screens (prefer physical buttons on a phone).
