First layer and layer adhesion issues HELP

I’ve had my X1-C for a few months now and the prints are getting worse and worse. The printer can’t print a good first or last layer. Underextrusion so bad that the infill layers don’t adhere and form globs. These issues make everything I print unusable.

I’ve wasted so much time and material trying different things to remedy the issue but with no success.

The blue/grey print show is the last thing I tried to print. The black object is something I printed when the printer was new.

I am sorry you’re having these problems I created a thread to collect some common problems and solutions. It is located below - I was impressed by what I saw Online and now that I have this unit I’m not so impressed due to the many inconsistent issues I’m having with adhesion and first layers I’m still going through my testing.

https://forum.bambulab.com/t/im-having-a-love-hate-relationship-with-my-x1c-how-about-you

My issues right now have been related to the cool plate and textured plate and not being able to adjust the Z index I have found success with the engineering plate heated at 65 using PLA

Out of simplicity I decided to opt out of creating a new thread.
Here is my problem.
first layer failures not adhering to a cleaned and glued smooth PEI high temp plate on an X1C. 4mm hardened nozzle with factory settings for PETG-HF. I am using the Bambu glue stick. I have had this problem a few times and I don’t think it is actually an ‘adhesion’ issue per-say. I think it may be a print speed or layer thickness/diameter/height issue. This guy is on it- https://youtu.be/gXcypXY3LWI?feature=shared . I just wanted some feed back on adjusting the initial layer for success in bambu’s slicer. Can I slow my first layer down permanently on my printer for PETG-HF only? I ask because I have made other changes that don’t save. FOR EXAMPLE nozzle temp on ‘other layers’, I set it for 242c and it is way better and a lot less stringy. However after watching The Bee video above I wonder if I should be setting something else up for the same result on the first layer. Anyone have any thoughts or care to dive into this?

I bought the A1 with AMS 10 days ago, Brilliant out of the box, print after print fine until yesterday. All of a sudden the first layer of the print no longer sticks to the textured plate…!! I have cleaned between prints with washing up liquid and hot water and dried with paper towels. Also Checked nozzle is clean, Re leveled the bed fully but every print now fails. Most disappointing as it was such a brilliant start. I am at a loss what to try next? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am having the exact same issue on the a1 mini i just dont know what to do someone please help.

Layerneer changed everything for me with Prusa. Not compatible with cool plate printing.

I continued to research and dropped the print speed to 50% and that helped but not totally and was not a consistent fix. Next I tried to tighten the 4 screws behind the print head. Then it printed great for a couple of prints and then reverted back to the same problem. I haven’t tried tightening again because I am getting a bit “p” off with it…!! Then I used glue on the bed which cured the adhesion but later in the print the surface of a flat surface partially became a “rough” surface in part of the print. This was something that I had printed perfectly before…same file, same PLA, so I really don’t know what to try next. Any more suggestions grateful received.

Update…
I tried increasing the bed temperature… I used an optical thermometer to see what the actual bed temperature was and when the printer said 65 degrees the measured temperature was 54 degrees…!! So highly underreported by at least 10 degrees…!! I hope someone from Bambu reads this…!! Anyway I re set manually to 75 which is a measured temperate by me of the bed at an actual 65 degrees. Way different BUT the print now sticks to the bed… this should not be like this and I don’t know if this is a fault with my particular printer or is a general Bambu fault… but it needs sorting…anyone else tried or can confirm this on theirs when they are having adhesion problems?? Thanks.

Does tightening the 4 screws behind the printing head also apply to the a1 mini?

Sorry I don’t know but have you tried to research for the mini on here for that info? Good luck…!!

I fixed it! I just had to turn up the heat for my bed and nozzle. For anyone who wants to know, on the a1 mini I have my bed at 80c my nozzle at 220c and the rest default settings.Oh and I have it on 50% speed for the first couple layers.

I have also fixed mine… the bed temperatures still do not match the real vs indicated values but… I bought a new bed from Amazon for £19 and immediate result… back to normal adhesion, no glue needed and perfect prints again…!! So it was the problem of the stock Bambu plate which has so very quickly lost adhesion and has been causing all the aggravation…!!

Good to know. I’ve been on ‘the tube’ for a while looking into what could be the problem and there is actually a lot of people saying changing adhesives made a big difference. I’m still looking into the issue. At the moment I’m trying the textured plate. It also seems to only happen with Blue lol… So that begs the question, do different colours have different properties that would make them ‘less sticky’? For reference I’m using the AMS and the humidity is 10%.

My advice is to not rely solely on water and soap for cleaning—give the surface a thorough rub with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) before using it again. This ensures a cleaner surface and improves adhesion.

As someone mentioned, having a bed temperature that’s too low can cause the bottom layers of your model to detach, so make sure the settings are properly adjusted.

To test your bed adhesion, you can use a simple 0.20 mm layer print like this one: Link. If everything is working correctly, the layer should stick evenly to the plate, and you should be able to remove it intact afterward. It’s a quick and effective way to check your setup!

Yes I have done that also. I did make a switch to a different ‘stick’. The Elmers purple works a bit better.

I primarily use Magigoo, so I can’t comment on the performance of other adhesive sticks. However, if you have the chance, I recommend giving Magigoo Original a try.
