First layer, Lidar, and all automatic

Good morning,
I come from the PRUSA world (not on the head please…) and I perfectly master the problem of the first layer… I have just received my Bambu Lab X1C and I am in the soup with this first layer … Everyone sings the praises of Lidar and all automatic, but I don’t know where and how to fix this problem… I’m looking forward to my PEI Plate so I don’t have to play with glue like in 1980… Can someone help me on this one?.. Thank you… Google translate)

Kindly advise which type of filament your are using here at which temparature and which plate ?

It would help if you gave some screenshots of the settings you are using…and what build plate you actually have on the printer.

Wawww what quick reactions !!! I use PRUSAMENT PLA filament with the default settings in BambuStudio and the plate delivered with the printer on the PLA side (cold). I won’t be home until Monday… I’ll take some screenshots… FYI, the rest of the print is going very well with a great result, but this first layer is really disgusting…

I would still lean towards a glue problem… I’ve never used glue before this printer… maybe I should try some hairspray?..

SI j’écris en Français, il y a traduction automatique???

Could be a few things, like the wrong plate selected in the slicer. That would be a common mistake that leads to such errors.
I assume you run ABL for the print?

Check settings for first layer. I’m using Bambu PLA settings, which works well for any filament I’ve used.

  • no cooling for first layer or two
  • first layer speed 35 mm/s
  • nozzle temp 220-225 deg C, I’m setting temps near high limit for the filament

Maybe Prusament PLA is too high quality for Bambu. I’m using the cheapest filament on market (Aurapol, Creality HP, Gembird) and my X1C really likes all of them. Creality HP PLA is actually too sticky and I’ve destroyed one cool plate because I’ve used too little glue before printing.

LOL! Love it! Thanks for the giggle. I had visons of someone in a classy restaurant saying “No thanks, I can’t eat that desert, it’s too rich for me.”

But seriously, did you run a full set of Calibrations in OrcaSlicer for the Prusament PLA? I seem to recall you saying previously you had issues with it? Or do I remember wrong?

Hairspray isn’t bad, but most find using the supplied BL Glue Stick or Purple Elmer’s glue stick work well. Less mess too. I have an Extra Large size Elmer’s that makes it easier to apply.

EDIT: The Glue Stick is primarily to prevent too much stick, it acts as a release agent like used in plastic molds. But the PEI plate works well.

If you use the settings for Bambu Lab PLA it might not work. Bambu Lab PLA setting push the limits for flow rate quite high and is a special easy meltable PLA. Try using the generic settings, they are much more conservative. But you should indeed run calibration via Orca Slicer.

Hello everyone…
Thank you for your answers, but in fact it is indeed a glue problem (system to which I am not at all used… All my settings correspond to your indications (speed, temperature, type of plate and filament) … on the other hand I had never seen this tiny little “calibration” icon… I am doing it… Here are some photos with glue applied not seriously and the last one seriously… .it’s much better, but there’s still work to do…I’ll see with the calibration…but I wonder how to "flatten the first layer a bit? where is this setting?

Thank you all!

Why i have acces denied for my pics?

Er… In the end, nothing works… the calibration fails every time… even if I change the filament… Is there a hardware problem??? But why can’t I post pictures anymore?

Why i have acces denied for my pics?

@Dominik6280 It’s not just you who can’t upload pics at the moment. I just tried myself and got the “Access Denied” message. Something going on with the server no doubt.

Hello again everyone!..
Eureka !!! flow at 105 and cold plate at 55°… nickel calibration!!!
AND NO GLUE !!!

Photos ASAP

YEAH!!
Photos are up! I got an Admin to handle it.

What the hell is Nickle calibration?? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
LOL

Nickel is a French expression for TOP!..
The first two photos are the result with all the default settings… (Pass1 and Pass2) I had the same results with several filaments, and frankly not terrible with the Bambu PLA Basic filament… The third photo ( Pass2) is the result obtained with a flow at 1.05 and the temperature of the plate at 55°… I retested with a flow at 0.98 and 55° and the result is almost identical… conclusion, it you have to heat the plate… which dispenses with the application of glue… I have just done the test with PLA-CF with a plate at 65° and still without glue… flawless…

Hi! I know this post is old, but I couldn’t find any other related stuff.
What profile do you use for your Aurapol PLA? I have a couple of them here, and I recently got a P1S, but I’m not sure what to use.

Ça fait longtemps que j ai bani la cool plate!!! Cette plaque est pourrie… j utilise uniquement la plaque structurée ou la plaque haute température….

It’s been a long time since I banished the cool plate…This plate is rotten… I only use the structured plate or the high temperature plate….
