First model "Taken Down"

Really simple model - three plates on an ax, some decorative spiral with globes to bring the appearance of a Christmas tree. Real pictures posted everywhere, some digital images indeed included. No Logo, nothing fancy - quite simple print. I did not know how to call it, looked on Amazon, finally decided for “3-Tier Dessert Stand”. Simple description added, I have explained that the spiral is flat printed and expands 3D under its own weight, done.

Still, somebody reports this:
“Reason for reporting
Print quality / Cannot be printed”

If you have two identical small squared plates and you ask 1000 persons to put them one over the other, and you give them a picture with the final result, there will be 3 persons to tell you this is impossible! - so the reporting does not really bother me, it is just human nature.

And then steps in Makerworld:

" MakerWorld Comment
This model was taken down due to inconsistencies in its name, images, description, and category. These inconsistencies may confuse users and disrupt the platform."

The classic text meaning something must be wrong if a user was confused…

I did an appeal, 24h have passed, no answer, still “taken Down”

What is wrong is not this model, that might have confused a user that has a 3D printer for more than 2 months now and knows everything about 3D printing… Wrong is to be treated “guilty” as soon as someone accuses you for anything.

I cannot have a link, I have only the options to re-read the accusation or to delete the model. It is really a Kafka Trial

Probably the spiral should be made of wire, and electrified, to prevent kids pilfering the goodies on the trays. Maybe you can adapt some of the parts that bbl sell to achieve that.

If this is the first model that you posted on makers world, then post it elsewhere, don’t bother with makers world again. If you have posted before on makers world, and this is the first one that they’ve taken down, then decide for yourself if it is worth renaming/whatever.

I don’t think there’s enough voltage in all the batteries combines to deter would-be desert thieves :joy:

That"s not such a bad idea - a dessert stand with an electrified protection fence
I have quite a few other models on MW and I am generally happy with how it works. But there are no such things like perfect systems, there is always something that can be improved. In this particular case I would suggest:

  • If such decision (taken down) was taken by an AI sub-system, then the algorithms should be refined and improved.
  • If such decision (taken down) was taken by a human operator, than this is really bad. Unless there is a major violation of the rules, model taken down should be the very last resort. Any problem or inconsistency should be discussed first with the designer, to give her/him a chance to correct it.

This looks great, the title seems appropriate, MW can’t allow one dumb person to dictate a model’s existence.

true, but its a relatively new company with, as one user said, “half-baked features.”

you have to be careful, if the model is bigger than 180mm then you have to untick A1 mini on the print profile upload page.

is it bigger than 180mm ? and did you upload it without unticking the A1 mini ?

Good news:

I am just happy to see quite an extreme measure cancelled and everything returned to normal - thank you all for your ideas and support.

You did lose the period between removal and reinstatement for points accumulation and lost the period post upload when many seek out new models.

Remember, guilty until they randomly accept you were innocent all along has it consequences.

What’s the name of this model?

This is a most curious story. I have my first printer since 2 weeks (well aware of my ignorance) and downloaded this design as one of the first due to its simple yet elegant and funny design. Haven’t gotten to print it but will do it later this week! This just got bumped up on my priority list!

I’m happy but also disappointed. Why the appeal cannot be done before taking down the model?

that is exactly what happened to me.

I proposed an alternative process for handling potential copyright claims to better protect content creators from unfair takedowns but I didn’t get any feedback from makerworld.

  1. Don’t take down models immediately. Instead:
  • Block the ability to redeem points for the user.
  • Block the ability to modify the model during the investigation.
  • Allow creators 3-5 days to provide evidence showing that no copyright violation has occurred.
  1. Only if sufficient evidence isn’t provided within this timeframe, should the model be taken down.

Did you upload this to another repository?

In my case, when the appeal was accepted, the original repository turned back to active, normal state.
