First try with new cool supertack plate - stuck TOO well

Tried using my new cool plate supertack for the first time with PLA, and the parts ended up sticking too well causing some damage upon removal.

I have read that with the normal cool plate, It is encouraged to use a glue stick to help with removal. is that still the case with the supertack plate? Does it need glue stick to stop it from being attached to strongly?

Damage to the plate or the model?

The model. Bottom layers stuck and peeled away from the model despite trying To bend the plate and slowly pry it away etc.

Similar issue here…

I was printing a frame with PETG, that had some inset text on the bottom side. The text was in PLA. Set the plate temp to 60 to suit the PETG. Noted, but ignored the recommended 30-40 Deg range for PLA.

Upon peeling the frame off the supertack surface, the PLA text letters stayed firmly stuck to the plate, ripping out of the PETG.

Never had that issue on my textured PEI plates - so a new lesson here. I guess it means - stick to the same filament type on the bottom surface.

In my case, both. It was just a PLA print, 220c nozzle temp, 45c bed temp, nothing crazy. Honestly, I’m surprised not that many people are experiencing this. Maybe I got a bad copy :smiling_face_with_tear:

Bla bla bla 25 characters…
Supertack

Nope, not really happening with my plate.

I understand that PLA text separates from a PETG print (kinda obvious, when people are using petg as an interface layer for PLA prints with supports), but not really why the layers separate before the prints lifts off the plate?

What I have been doing with my SuperTack Plate:

  • I use the metal scraper to remove the print
  • Remove it while it is hot (might be important, the website recommends heating the plate before attempting removal)
  • Rarely bend the plate (not that it matters in this case)

I can observe this with supports, where they break somewhere in the middle when I try to remove them without the scraper. I only had the layers separate once, and that was with dirt cheap silk pla that didn’t print well.

But it is definitely not a regular occurrence.

Never said it’s a common occurrence, just sharing what happened to my SuperTack plate. It doesn’t mean it WILL happen to you, just letting people know this COULD happen after only 3 or 4 prints, even if you use the correct settings.

I got the plate for free with my MakerWorld points, so it’s not like I have any stake in it. Again, this is just my personal experience, make of it what you will.
