Flying spaghetti monster?

So I tried making a lithograph and the first one just stopped. Still said it was printing but just say there a pooped a little blob on the top of the unfinished print. I decided to try a different one to make sure it wasn’t just that file and then went to work. Forgot to check it for a few hours and this happened. Looks like it stopped then went to home position after a while and pooped a steady streep of filament because it was still hot and thought it was printing.

I’m on an A1 less than a month old with latest software and a .2mm nozzle
File is from the lithograph maker on the bambu phone app
Printing in petg

I tried a Google search and came up with nothing like this. I have a new SD card ordered just in case it’s a bad card issue.

Oh my silicone sleeve is all torn now from the filament hardening on it so that’s fun

PETG? Did you dry it before use? PETG loves to absorb water out of the air and it changes how it behaves. You aren’t the first to get a rat’s nest of PETG with melted filament all up in the sock and extruder head because of it.

There is lots of information here on drying filament. It’s very possible to go through the motions and still have wet filament that behaves poorly, unfortunately.

If you want to know if your filament is wet, seal it in a gallon size freezer ziplock with a hygrometer and let it sit for 10 hours or so. Bet the hygrometer reads well above 30% humidity in the bag. Note - this is not the moisture content but an indirect measure of moisture content.

I don’t get good results with PETG until the filament can take the humidity below 10% (as low as my hygrometers read) in that test.

Why not use PLA? It’s much less susceptible to water issues for most people.

It was opened the day of the print so I hope it’s not the issue but to answer the why not pla . . . I ordered the wronged thing (in a 10 pack😭) and am waiting on the pla to show up.

I’m in the process of setting up a humidor for storage.

Would wet petg cause the printer to just stop mid print but not report anything wrong and still say it’s printing?

Others report stopped prints so could well be. But unfortunately, filament can arrive with a range of moisture contents. With PETG, I tried prints straight from the bag and saw water issues. Dried it and it printed really nice.

PETG HF (all I have printed) really prints well - if it is dry. It turns into a problem fast if it is wet.
