As someone relatively new to CAD and 3D printing, and lacking connections with professional creators due to time constraints and a lack of real-life friends interested in the hobby, I’ve been contemplating ways to actively seek feedback from experienced individuals who generously offer advice on modeling. My proposed solution is to introduce a dedicated category within forums for this specific purpose. Within this category, users have the opportunity to present their models on a more technical level, providing insights into their thought processes, posing specific questions, and offering explanations.
With that in mind, I have a few questions:
What are your thoughts on this idea overall? Is a forum the appropriate platform for such interactions?
To fellow beginners and amateurs: Would you find value in utilizing such a feature?
To seasoned professionals and experienced users: Would you be open to providing constructive feedback within this framework?
What measures can be implemented to deter individuals from exploiting this platform as a means to promote their models?
It’s funny, but this is exactly what I thought of when I first read your suggestion. People already look for excuses to link their models to get more visibility and this would just be another advertising venue for them.
If there was a way to prevent unwanted advertising, then I’d probably enjoy a category like this. I’m a hobbyist CAD designer myself and so I enjoy learning from others. I wouldn’t be one to share problems to be solved since I have a problem of my own where I apparently can’t ever seem to ask for help. But, I do enjoy sharing solutions or suggestions to others toe help solve problems
I think it’s a neat idea, but it might be more suited for Discord or something similar, where the pros hop in to see what people are cooking and advise, it would be more real-time and it would mean that the Newbies would have to be very attentive to the responses in order to keep the pros engaged with them.
I think it’s a good idea. I was thinking before about starting a thread in off topic to host tips/tricks on modeling for 3d printing. I get asked questions often enough, so.
Yes
No makerworld.com links allowed! If you’re asking for help, you can post pictures directly!
Anyway, it’d be great. We’re all about 3d printing, and modeling stuff to 3d print is half the battle, as GI Joe might say, if I got a chance to re-write their script. So a space focused towards the topics of modeling would be much nice.
