Fotis Mint is on Makerworld

So I noticed Fotis Mint is on Makerworld is has not set up his models per the standards. Should he be reported? His main issueis no printed pictures. It’s all renders.

Just a spot check but it looks like he’s only posting the models and not 3mf files. Things may have changed but it used to be ok to not post photos for the stl files. The 3mf files require photos but I didn’t see any posted. And some models do look like they have photos - just not as the featured/main photo.

I believe all listings have to have printed pictures but I could be wrong. I’ve never liked that rule anyway especially for art type models. I just assumed Bambu reached out to get him on the site but that might not be the case.

All print profiles have to have photos of printed items using said profile. Also, in case of CC0 models they do say that those need to have real photo too in main gallery.

I’ve checked and all Fotis Mint profiles follow that rule and have even photos of the item on the print bed.

So if you post without a profile you can just share a render? Just curious for my own work.

There’s a catch there tbh…

You CAN post without a profile and the cover image and all the images in the gallery can be renders/screenshots, however if you want to take part in Exclusive Model Program, then you HAVE to post a profile and with that comes real photo requirement.

And… Bambu has changed requirements before and penalized makers who posted models that met requirements when they were posted but were in violation after the new rules were implemented. (Added - Apparently there was a notice but many didn’t see it)

Best protection is to post actual photos on all model profiles. Inlcude renders if you want but this has been a pretty big deal here and made for lots of hard feelings by those caught up in it.

Easiest to just not push the rules.

Right. I’ve been here for a bit and gotten slapped on the wrist for some of the way I’ve listed my models because the rules changed. That’s honestly why I brought Fotis mints name up. He’s prominent in the 3d community and I think renders are fine for certain projects, but it seems like Bambu feels different and I think that’s also fine. So I wanted to see where everyone else sort of fell on this.

For me I’d rather not push it, even designing your own models off of others IP seems to be against the rules unless you have permission from the owners. That’s specifically for the exclusive models.

I think I’m personally done with trying to post exclusive models unless I really make something that’s got a bunch of pieces and needs assembled. That seems like the only type of thing that really checks all the boxes. They’ve done a better job defining what is and isn’t allowed but it just might not be worth the hassle.

Not yet. small 2d extrusion - no good. big 2d extrusion with a color stripe in the middle: good, well maybe good.

It’s still high stakes calvin ball.

I can’t speak for them but my guess is that they especially want print profiles to work. Since they sell the printers and run MW, it’s probably embarrassing when printer owners read them the riot act over why their printers can’t print the stuff on their website. Some may get disgusted and want refunds for things not the fault of Bambu.

And then there’s the other side of the coin - the print mills that post stuff that can’t be printed but the renders look cool and snag lots of downloads. The scammers used to do that wholesale and I’m sure the photo requirement stopped a lot of that.

Unfortunately a lot or maybe all the rules here are because some saw a way to cheat the system.

Well I agree that photos are always best, however Fotis is not breaking any rules as he’s not uploading any profiles, just the STLs

And he’s one of the GOATs in this type of design, I don’t think there’s any question about the quality of the work. when I first got a 3D printer I printed many many of his designs, they are awesome

I’m even surprised to see him here, he pretty much left printables and was only on MMF if I remember right, so he’s probably looking at getting a new printer (or many) from rewards

Seems like it’s more for visiability. He’s definitely a GOAT. Definitely seems weird to see him on here buti feel like things have changed in the Patreon, thanks, printables world. Makerworld is definitely disrupting.

Any idea where to look for rules for listing a model? I looked and couldn’t find it. I know where the exclusive model guidelines are. Also along those lines could I upload a 3mf that isn’t a print profile?

You’re leaving out the part where Bambu announced the change and gave everyone 14 10 days to adapt to the rules.

You just need to read when you are uploading, all information is there

Yeah you can upload 3mfs in the same place you upload the STLs

I have something ready that I’m going to upload next week. I’ll definitely check it out.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Someone who’s been around for quite a bit, who’s work has been featured on many YouTube channels, and who is giving away some of the older models (some newish). This guy is one of few I would say doesn’t need to prove his files will printe, furthermore he’s not uploading profiles so there’s no need for a finished pic.

The point is to prove the file will print. All those files have been printed many, many times. Uncle Jessie has printed them, Ross from Faux Hammer has printed them, many many more.

Stop nitpicking when someone like Fotis Mint or Galatic Armory comes here and giving away their work. Enjoy you got it free.

It’s not unfair. Prove your files can be printed many times over on different machines and I’m sure MW would leave you alone.

forgive the printables vid. Not advertising for them.
