This is just a poll of sorts to give Bambu Labs an idea as to what functionality you as a user would like to see added to Bambu Studio software.
Me personally I would like to have the ability to remotely shut down printer to save power. You can kinda do this in settings to power down after x amount of minutes.
I do functional prints to assist with electronic enclosures, to mount circuit boards or other retail components for custom situations. Nothing is the same and it always requires designing in 3D CAD which has nothing to do with my question, just for background info. In rare cases i can use Fuzzy Skin in Bambu studio and love it (though not everyone does) I have asked many times including the Bambu forum for more textures to be available but I only hear crickets in response. Does anyone have a workable option to create textures on models before saving them as a step or stl file.
It seems there are softwares to do this such as blender Zbrush & a few others, but that looks to be a very steep learning curve for something that is so simple to do in Bambu Studio if there was only a way to download textures such as Ideamaker. Donât get me wrong it is not critical to the parts at all, it would just improve the look for the customer. The parts are functional which means organic shapes are mostly not an option and larger flat or curved area can suffer from layer lines.
From reading your post, Iâm not sure I understand what your objective is. Are you saying youâre looking for a function that will allow the use of a palette of textures to choose from?
Thereâs only one slicer I have seen that supports such a notion and that Ideamaker which is free. However, it does not directly support Bambu since Bambuâs firmware is proprietary. You can however, create the object and then paint the texture from a rich library and then export it to an STL for print in Bambu Studio.
I have played around with it as a curiosity piece a while back and all I can remember was that it was something I would not be able to find a use-case in my personal situation but it was kind of cool. I used the software to create a simple model of a knurled knob and then exported it to an STL then brought that STL in Orca for print. After all was said and done, I decide that creating such regular patterns was best done in CAD, in my opinion at least.
Check out this video from makerâs muse. Just be forewarned that this YouTuber may be annoying AF to some folks, he doesnât know whether he wants to be Emo, Goth or punk and there is something about him that makes me just want to punch him in the face. But the video is educational and insightful and may be what your looking for if you
Hereâs a link to their texture library
Textures would be good.
Fuzzy skin should be âpaintableâ on verical walls. Iâve got around this by cutting into the areas with a shape then leaving the cutting tool (shape) in place. In BBS you need to, for some reason, duplicate the skin object (just copy an paste it from the object list) else it doesnât apply any texture. Once you have 2 objects apply the fuzzy skin to any one of them then it works.
Studio needs a measurement tool. Let me click two points and tell me the distance between them. This would be very useful for use with downloaded .stl files to allow for scaling a model.
The various Studio âpaintingâ functions need a straight line drawing tool. Either a separate tool that draws point to point, or even just something like Windows Paint, where holding the Shift key restricts mouse movement to straight horizontal or vertical lines. It is very difficult to create a neat seam with a mouse.
Bambu Labs can you please add functionality to your scale command. One simple improvement would be to have a scale factor like 1:2 or 2.00 to double the size of component vs x,y,z axes values.
Thanks
The uniform scale box is checked by default.
So how is entering 2.00 easier than entering 200 in the scale box?
How did you manage to get the files to export properly? I tried my best to follow the instructions on that video and when Iâd import the stl into bambu studio (or Orca) the file didnât have the texture on itâŚ
Try converting the file to .STEP. Then give it a go.
Youâll have to be more specific. There are no âtextureâ properties in either STL or STEP files, unlike Blender or OBJ files, which have an optional material file (MTL) associated with the OBJ. Can you supply a screenshot of what youâre referring to?
If what youâre saying is that your model had a texture and that the texture disappeared after reducing the STL vertices, then yes, that would be expected. The reduction or simplification process reduces vertices, which will affect any texture that may be on the surface.
I was so excited to learn about textures in Ideamaker, then so disappointed it canât bake it into the STL. And no Bambu support.
Blender is way too hard. An easy way to print textures without being a CAD guru would be the next level of 3D printing.
