G29.1 gcode Z offset. Meaning of values?

Using the 0.2mm nozzle and the smooth PEI plate, I find that the nozzle is too close to the plate, leading to overextrusion and a wavy texture for the first layer. Setting the first layer extrusion multiplier to 0.85 solves the problem.

I would also like to experiment with the Z offset. I understand that for this I have to edit the G-code and manually set the Z offset using a command like this:

G19.2 Z{-0.04}

My question is this:
Does a negative offset move the nozzle and bed closer together or farther away?

Thanks!

A negative number is squish, ie, closer to the plate.

How have you calibrated the flow rate?

I ran the auto-calibration. The result of that works great for every layer but the first. To not get a wavy pattern on the first layer, I had to reduce the first layer extrusion to 0.85. That worked great.

I can try a manual calibration, but with the 0.2mm nozzle, I’ll need a microscope.

if you go into the preferences and turn on dev mode in studio. It will give you an option to set the first layer flow rate. I set it at 0.80 for my darkmoon plate.
