Probably a dumb question but wondering if I can shut the fans off if I have the glass plate raised so that the air can escape and cool or should I have them on at a lower temp? I am using Silk PLA
It’s not a dumb question but it’s not an easy answer either. You didn’t mention your printer model but lets assume it’s either an X1 or enclosed P1 series since those have lids.
The size, density, location and infill % of your model will determine how quickly the filament will solidify. Too cold and it will not be hot enough to bond to the layer below, too hot and you could get bulging affect like elephant’s foot or you could experience stringing. Silk likes it generally hotter as the tutorials will tell you. However, you may have to also play around with Max flow rate.
Raising the lid will only allow for air at the top of the chamber to balance with ambient air temp. If you’re not having layer adhesion problems them, leave the lid closed, you gain nothing by leaving it open.
In short, you’ll have to experiment with each filament and model.
It wouldn’t come off the plate before breaking apart. Very comparable to Marvin’s Infinity War and half of the cast. I should have had that playing in the background to get a sense of how they felt with their loved ones slipping through their fingers as my print was doing the same. Oh well, what can you do.
